I was out speaking directly with local businesses and restaurant owners about another busy patio season ahead in Ottawa. As we celebrate Ottawa 200, we’re doing everything we can to support small businesses. That’s why City Council unanimously approved my motion to eliminate patio fees across the city, including in the ByWard Market and downtown. This will help reduce costs for restaurants, and support local jobs. Looking forward to seeing our patios full across Ottawa.

J'ai discuté directement avec les commerçants et les restaurateurs locaux de la nouvelle saison des terrasses qui s'annonce à Ottawa. Alors que nous célébrons le 200e anniversaire d'Ottawa, nous mettons tout en œuvre pour soutenir les petites entreprises. C'est pourquoi le conseil municipal a approuvé à l'unanimité ma motion visant à supprimer les frais liés aux terrasses dans toute la ville, y compris au marché ByWard et au centre-ville. Cette mesure permettra de réduire les coûts pour les restaurants et de soutenir l'emploi local. J’ai hâte de voir les terrasses d’Ottawa bien remplies partout dans la ville.

Ottawa residents deserve better, more reliable public transit. We've done a lot of work on the major issues and challenges we inherited from the last term of council, but we still have more to do. Today, I joined our new transit GM Rick Leary in chatting with transit riders while taking the bus and the train downtown from Barrhaven. Rick is developing a strong action plan to improve bus and train service. With the upload of the LRT to Metrolinx, we'll have $85 million more we can invest in better, more reliable service every year. Let's keep working together to fix the problems and deliver better transit for the people of Ottawa.

Les résidents d’Ottawa méritent un transport en commun plus fiable et plus efficace. Nous avons déjà accompli beaucoup de travail pour régler les principaux problèmes et défis hérités du dernier mandat du Conseil, mais il reste encore du travail à faire. Aujourd’hui, j’ai accompagné notre nouveau directeur général du transport en commun, Rick Leary, pour discuter avec des usagers pendant un trajet en autobus et en train entre Barrhaven et le centre-ville. Rick élabore un plan d’action solide pour améliorer le service d’autobus et de train. Grâce au transfert du TLR à Metrolinx, nous disposerons de 85 millions de dollars supplémentaires par année à investir dans un service plus fiable et plus performant. J’entends des résidents partout à Ottawa qui sont profondément préoccupés par l’augmentation de l’itinérance dans toute la ville, et particulièrement au centre-ville. C’est pour cette raison que je me suis engagé à mettre fin à l’itinérance chez les jeunes d’ici 2030. Et c’est pour la même raison que j’ai présenté aujourd’hui une motion au Conseil municipal afin d’accélérer nos investissements en logement avec services de soutien pour aider les personnes les plus vulnérables. Le logement avec services de soutien est une des clés pour mettre fin à l’itinérance. C’est un investissement qui permet aux gens de rester logés tout en ayant accès aux services dont ils ont besoin, qui réduit les déplacements en ambulance, les visites à l’urgence et les séjours à l’hôpital. Ottawa a l’occasion de montrer la voie dans la lutte contre l’itinérance. C’est une étape importante pour la revitalisation de notre centre-ville. Allons plus loin, accélérons le développement du logement avec services de soutien et continuons d’avancer vers un objectif clair : mettre fin à l’itinérance, une fois pour toutes. https://t.co/UnZc4wNw23
