@stevenmartini pitch: a horror movie about a guy who tweets this idea as a joke, it goes viral, and then he's forced to make his horror movie about a horror movie (by the dark forces of the market)
Hard to believe Spencer Pratt lost the election despite having no experience, being highly unpopular and running in a 4:1 democratic stronghold.
Makes no sense.
@RealConservBear@EdWhelanEPPC ppl on the left are much more likely to vote by mail than ppl on the right. candidates on the right start with a lead because all their votes come rushing in on election day. the mail-in votes take longer to filter in, verify, and count. do you really need this explained?
@dnlklr 100%, the reason a goofy right wing reality tv star is not going to be the mayor in one of the most liberal cities in the country is because the service workers union is doing election fraud. Now you just need a grainy video of them carrying a box into a room and you’ve got em!
it feels like the aggressive campaign against the humanities over the past ~20 years has resulted in a generation of vacuous, kind of sad, lost-looking college graduates who have never been pushed to consider why something should be done; only to hear the flat siren call of "ROI"
Today, we’re excited to introduce Miso One, the most emotive voice model in the world.
Miso One is an 8-billion-parameter text-to-speech model for highly expressive speech generation. It emotes like a human and responds faster than a human, with just 110 milliseconds of latency.
We’ve open-sourced the model weights, with API access coming soon.
Hear how Miso One sounds in the thread below.
@AodenTeoMT "what if we further dehumanize shared reality and remove the last morsels of deliberation / personal touch from the creation of voiceover, shifting the uncanny nature of AI voiceover from the conscious to the subliminal layer? wouldn't that...um...rule?"
@dnlklr Calling any interesting art that isn’t explicitly progressive ‘right wing’ is a great way to ensure we continue getting complex challenging media!
You see recurrent versions of this everywhere, i.e. the idea people get more conservative as they get older. This is broadly true of exactly one generation blessed to grow up with shared prosperity and a welfare state that then decided no one else deserved those things.
@dnlklr Yeah quite a paradox! It’s like people are all up in arms about their local ecology, without even considering the fictional ecology that exists in graphics set hundreds of years in the future
@tszzl (which would seem to be entirely consistent with the phenomenon of large private firms acting irrationally in ways that are against their own long-term interests)
@tszzl i believe the core worldview at the heart of marxism is that capitaliusm is ultimately self-destructive and will bring about its own implosion ?
@JoyceCarolOates i could be misremembering but isn't the narrator in The Fever written to be cringey? I don't think it's supposed to be a flattering self-portrait
