This is not just another tragedy. This is a state-sanctioned silence in the face of a gruesome, deliberate mass murder and it must be called exactly what it is.

A respected Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria staff member, along with his wife, children, siblings, and relatives, were slaughtered like animals on the streets of Mangun community in Mangu LGA of Plateau State. They were not armed. They were not criminals. They were on their way to celebrate a wedding but were murdered simply because of who they were. And worst of all? Everyone knows who did it.

The mob is not unknown. They are from the community. They are known by the local government chairman, known by community elders, and known to every security agent in the area. Yet no single person has been arrested. Not one. This wasn’t a case of mistaken identity. The victims were travelling in a clearly branded official ABU vehicle, with government plate numbers. A university convoy. A symbol of intellect and peace. Even that didn’t spare them.

Instead, they were dragged out, butchered, and burned their corpses left in the open, while the local government twists itself into excuses. The Plateau State Government, instead of calling it what it is an organised massacre is already rationalising the killings with dangerous insinuations and cowardly silence.

Until these murderers are arrested and prosecuted, the government of Plateau State will be complicit, and history will not forget who stood by while innocents were executed in broad daylight under official watch.

This is not just about the dead.
It is about every single Nigerian who could be next.
