OIC and UN Meet in Geneva to Review the Cooperation towards
Addressing Regional and International Issues.

The 17th Session of the Biennial General Cooperation Meeting between the Secretariats of the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and their relevant institutions and specialized agencies has started today, on 22nd July, 2026, at the United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland.
The meeting is co-chaired by Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs, and Amb. Khaled Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations. The meeting is being attended by the senior officials from the General Secretariat, the relevant OIC institutions and UN agencies.
The OIC Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, in his message delivered by Dr. Ahmad Sengendo during the opening session affirmed the OIC's keenness to enhance cooperation with the UN to address regional and international issues, foremost among them the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif., and to achieve sustainable development in common Member States.
The three-day-meeting, which will continue until 24th July, 2024, will take stock of the previously agreed cooperation activities, and discuss future areas of collaboration as well as exchange views on regional and international issues of common concerns. It will also review the implementation of the Matrix of Joint Activities adopted by the General Cooperation Meeting held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan in July 2024. It covers cooperation between OIC and the UN in areas such as peace and security, combating Islamophobia, countering violent extremism, human rights, women empowerment, education, humanitarian assistance, sustainable socio-economic development, including climate change and disaster risk reduction, among others.

Joint Statement by the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Regarding the Conclusion of Lake Lucerne Summit, First High-Level Committee Meeting with Participation of the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran

Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU)، as mediator.
The Islamabad MOU has been signed by President of USA Donald J. Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian.
I am honoured to announce that the historic ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ has been electronically signed today between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Memorandum has been signed by honourable Presidents of both the countries and also endorsed by me as the mediator. The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict. Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.
I offer my heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump whose steadfast commitment to diplomacy and preference for peaceful resolution have once again helped end a conflict that could have led to devastating consequences for the region and beyond. I also commend the dedication and tireless efforts of the United States negotiating team, including J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, for their invaluable contributions to this achievement.
I express my profound respect and appreciation to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran and President Masoud Pezeshkian for their wisdom, foresight and statesmanship in embracing the cause of peace. I also wish to recognize the efforts of the Iranian negotiating team, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi and Eskandar Momeni, whose patience, perseverance and commitment to constructive engagement were instrumental in bringing this agreement to fruition.
I would especially like to acknowledge the sincere efforts and constructive engagement of the leadership of the State of Qatar in helping reach this point. I also highly commend the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Türkiye and the Arab Republic of Egypt for their indispensable role and invaluable contributions in this regard.
I would also like to make special mention of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, whose tireless efforts, selfless dedication and instrumental role were critical in facilitating this breakthrough and advancing the cause of peace and regional stability.
May this Memorandum of Understanding serve as an enduring foundation for greater understanding, mutual respect and shared prosperity for the complete region.

The OIC emphasizes the ethical governance of artificial intelligence and supports Palestinian workers at the International Labour Conference in Geneva
At the conclusion of the 114th session of the International #Labour Conference, the #OIC’s Permanent Observer, Ambassador Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, delivered a speech on behalf of the Organization’s Secretary-General, focusing on the future of work and artificial intelligence. In his address, the OIC emphasized the importance of harnessing technology to serve ‘#decentwork’, calling for the adoption of a humane and ethical approach to the governance of artificial intelligence in line with the outcomes of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers. He also affirmed the rights of Palestinian workers and highlighted the tragic conditions faced by workers in the occupied territories, from the destruction of employment sectors in Gaza to settler violence and the expansion of settlements in the West Bank.

Pakistan warmly welcomes the understanding reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This significant breakthrough reflects the power of sustained diplomatic engagement and the collective resolve of friendly nations to choose dialogue over confrontation.
It also sends a reassuring message to the international community and provides much-needed confidence and stability to global markets and the world economy, particularly for developing countries that are most vulnerable to regional instability.
Throughout this period, Pakistan remained actively engaged with all concerned parties and consistently advocated restraint and constructive engagement, maintaining that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means for the resolution of all issues.
We appreciate the trust reposed in Pakistan by the leadership of both the United States and Iran and commend their commitment to remaining engaged in pursuit of a peaceful and negotiated outcome.

Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.
We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.
With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony.

We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical level talks next week.
We would like to thank United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran for their ongoing commitment during the negotiations, and we extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in the region for their support. We are confident that this historic peace deal will form a strong foundation for lasting peace.

Amid ongoing intense mediation efforts by Pakistan, we are fully aware of incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal. Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps. Peace has never been this close as it is now.

The 8th Session of the Joint Commission was held between Pakistan and Tajikistan in Dushanbe, co-chaired by H.E. Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division), Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Jum’a Daler Shofaqir, Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Tajikistan.
Ambassador Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, Permanent Observer of @OIC_OCI, participated as a panelist in the panel marking the 40th anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Right to Development on 18 May 2026. The event, organized within the framework of the 27th session of the Working Group on the Right to Development, highlighted the important role of regional mechanisms in realizing the right to development.
As the nation commemorates the glorious success of Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, we thank Allah Almighty and pay tribute to the extraordinary courage, unwavering resolve, and supreme sacrifices of our Armed Forces and the people of Pakistan.
In the face of aggression, Pakistan stood united in purpose, disciplined in action, and unshakable in faith. Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos reflected the exceptional strength, professionalism, and operational excellence of our Armed Forces, who, under the resolute and visionary leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, defended the sovereignty and dignity of the motherland with remarkable precision, valor, and determination. I am grateful to President Donald Trump for his courageous leadership and timely announcement regarding the pause in Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump's gracious response to the request made by Pakistan and other brotherly countries, particularly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and my dear brother Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia H.R.H Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will go a long way towards advancing regional peace, stability and reconciliation during this sensitive period.

Pakistan Navy rendered assistance to stranded vessel MV GAUTAM in the Arabian Sea carrying seven crew members, including six Indian and one Indonesian nationals, after the vessel suffered a critical technical failure while enroute from Oman to India. 1/2
