1 Kgs 3:3 “Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, EXCEPT that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.”
What’s your “except”? Solomon’s life suggests such exceptions don’t turn out well.
@stevecusswords@geoffholsclaw A good resource might be Marva Dawn’s “A Royal Waste of Time.” It will be different from the question you’re asking but might offer some unique insights from the worship side that might help you in your question. Regardless, she’s an incredible writer and this one is helpful
@djstrickland@lukeappleton …the ancient world had no problem with female deities, which can confuse our preconceived notions of what we think of a patriarchal society. It seems intentional.
@djstrickland@lukeappleton Danielle, this is a bit of a dodge. Of course all these are true biblically. But it is also true the Spirit is referred to in the NT in the masculine (not just neuter).
it’s worth asking why exclusively masculine language for God in a society that had plenty of female deities.

@lurioosi This greatly amuses me. Notice that your reply has literally no bearing in reality other than your assumptions. I’m a pastor. 😂
I was pointing out specific things Eric didn’t mention that actually - at the very least - nuances the point he’s trying to make.
