@DianeSwonk This hurts but what hurts more is that both Biden & Trump (or Congress for that matter) are oblivious to what needs to be done. Maybe there are no answers but the rhetoric is disheartening.
@avtansa You make a valid point. Anecdotal it may be but imho Indian parents over do things on behalf of "adult children". Partially it is the economic factor. For many reasons parents are financially responsible for their adult children. One example - kids marriage expenses
@andymukherjee70@_sabahgurmat Great article. Granted I am biased, I still wonder why Purvanchal doesn't vote for progress - votes being their biggest asset? Seems to me - happiness is doing well (others doing badly?) in comparison with peer group (other castes etc).🤷♂️
@avtansa Everybody would be richer. The problem is not with one degree or other. Problem is relative lack of money / safety in other degrees. However it forces many to make sub-optimal choices. Remove the constraint - everyone benefits.
@avtansa It's heartbreaking but people (including me) now just don't care. Most folks don't even understand the shift, how & why - so pointless to bring it up.
@wandhs@NCTV17 Fm Pankaj Mishra essay; Jean Amery-"not at all speaking with the intention to convince; I just blindly throw my word onto the scale, whatever it may weigh....in order that the crime become a moral reality for the criminal, in order that he be swept into the truth of his atrocity"
@priyaadivarekar@dhavalkulkarni Subjectivity is key. I hv been fortunate to try food in many cities. I rem the frustration of trying to find decent Nehari in Mumbai, pav bhaji in Delhi, Chennai sambar in B'lore. They might exist, didnt find it then. My learning, enjoy the moment. We are blessed to try them all.
@saarwewoz @avtansa Correct. Estimates vary from 60-70%. Iirc, It was the same language rekhta or hindvi and Britishers gave the name - urdu, turkish for camp. Like avtansa I should be quoting sources but I will just be lazy. Iirc, it was Mr Faruqi's assertion.
