The people of the Garvaghy Road have won again.

Tonight the British Secretary of State has overturned the Commission and ruled that the Drumcree parade cannot go down our road.

After twenty-eight years of holding the line, and after nearly two weeks of residents standing in the rain and refusing to be moved, the attempt to force an Orange march through a nationalist community has been stopped.

This was never about a church service.

It was about whether a loyalist institution could march where it is not wanted, against the settled wishes of the people who live there.

The residents answered that for themselves with dignity, numbers, and not giving a single inch of compromise.

Rightly so, as nothing other than radical resistance at any cost was deserved and necessary.

The state has now had to catch up with what the community already decided.

Garvaghy Road belongs to its people.

No parade.

No surrender of that ground.

The residents have their victory and every republican who stood with them in presence or spirit can mark it.

Let us all hope this matter has been definitively settled now for all future conversation.

I hold confidence it indeed has been seeing as the recent revived aggression of the Orange Order, which must be prescribed a terrorist organisation and outlawed in a United Ireland, is more symptomatic of an overall reactive death rattle for a dying way of life defined by hate and chains to a darker past rather than ever of any sort of rejuvenated momentum, quite the opposite as recent events has shown.
