From Cluster Farming to Farmer-Owned Agribusiness Companies.

Ethiopia’s cluster farming model is entering a new chapter.

What began with 600,000 hectares has expanded to nearly 13 million hectares, bringing together 9.5 million smallholder farmers while contributing to a 29% increase in productivity.

Now, under the new Farmers’ Agribusiness Companies Proclamation, these clusters are being transformed into legally registered, professionally managed farmer owned businesses.

This transition will strengthen value addition, improve market access and bargaining power, expand access to finance, and accelerate the shift from subsistence farming to competitive, commercial agriculture.

Empowering farmers not just to produce but to own, process, negotiate, and prosper.

Today, I had a warm and constructive discussion with H.E. Dr. Afkar Nadhim Ali Al-Farsi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, to Ethiopia.

Our conversation was guided by a shared belief that agriculture can serve as a strong bridge between our two nations. We explored ways to increase Ethiopia’s exports of meat, coffee, and sesame to the Sultanate of Oman by improving both quality and volume, ensuring our farmers and exporters benefit from expanded market opportunities.

We also discussed knowledge exchange in date palm production, where Oman has valuable experience, as well as cooperation in agricultural input supply to further strengthen productivity and value chains.

It is always encouraging to see partnerships built not only on trade but also on trust, learning, and long term vision.

Ethiopia and the Sultanate of Oman will continue working together for mutual prosperity and sustainable agricultural growth. 🇪🇹🤝🇴🇲

Dost Etiyopya halkıyla yüzyıllara sâri münasebetlerimizin geliştirilmesine büyük önem veriyoruz.

Yaptığımız görüşmelerde Sayın Başbakan ve heyetiyle ticari yatırımlar, enerji, madencilik, tarım, iletişim ve eğitim alanlarındaki ilişkilerimizi etraflıca görüştük.

Diğer birçok alandaki potansiyel iş birliklerini nasıl değerlendirmemiz gerekiyor, 1 milyar dolar ticaret hacmi hedefimize nasıl ulaşırız; bunları da ele aldık.

Etiyopya’daki en büyük ikinci yatırımcı ülke olmaktan memnuniyet duyuyoruz.

200’ü aşkın firmamızın, 2,5 milyar doları bulan yatırımlarıyla yaklaşık 20 bin Etiyopyalının istihdamına destek olması bizler için kıvanç vesilesidir.

Türk müteahhitlik firmaları, Etiyopya’da demir yolu, ulaşım, özellikle fabrika, turistik tesis ve enerji nakil hatları gibi faaliyet alanlarında 2,6 milyar dolar değerinde 15 projeyi üstlendi.

İnşallah bunun daha da artmasını temenni ediyoruz.

Tüm dünyanın gözü Afrika Boynuzu’na, buraya çevrilmişken Etiyopya’nın köklü devlet yapısının önemi daha da çok hissediliyor.

Biz bölgenin sorunlarına yine bölge ülkeleri tarafından çözüm geliştirmesine, Afrika Boynuzu’nun yabancı güçlerin mücadele alanına çevrilmemesi gerektiğine inanıyoruz.

Bu minvalde İsrail’in Somaliland’ı tanımasının ne Somaliland’a ne de Afrika Boynuzu’na faydası olmadığını tekrar vurgulamak istiyorum.

Bu vesileyle yakın geçmişte Etiyopya ve Somali arasında ara buluculuğunu yürüttüğümüz Ankara sürecindeki tutumları için her iki tarafa da tekrar teşekkür ediyorum.

İstikrara kavuşmasıyla birlikte Afrika Boynuzu’nun ekonomik fırsatlarıyla dikkatleri üzerine çeken bir konuma erişmemesi için hiçbir engel görmüyoruz.

Today, I visited a banana cluster farm in Hawa Gelan Woreda of Kelem Welega Zone, developed under the Bounty of the Basket (Lemat Tirūfat) initiative. I was encouraged to see farmers working together in an organized and cooperative manner, transforming the area through their dedication and hard work. The farm stands as a strong example of how properly utilizing local land and water resources can create meaningful change. By applying traditional irrigation methods and making effective use of available resources, the community has built a productive and promising agricultural site. It was especially inspiring to witness how improved road infrastructure is supporting farmers in bringing their produce to market with greater ease. This progress reflects what can be achieved when development efforts are closely aligned with the needs and potential of the local community.

This strategy brings food production closer to people. It promotes modern and climate smart farming, value addition, and strong market linkages so cities contribute meaningfully to food and nutrition security while opening new opportunities for youth and women.

Today, I had a very fruitful discussion with H.E. Ambassador Ajmad Almoumani, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Ethiopia, focused on deepening and elevating the bilateral relationship between our two countries in the agriculture sector.

Our discussion centered on establishing a strategic partnership in agricultural input supply, alongside significantly increasing the volume of Ethiopian agricultural commodities including coffee, flowers, meat, and live animals exported to Jordan.

We also explored avenues for knowledge and expertise exchange, particularly in efficient irrigation technologies suitable for arid and semi-arid environments, an area where Jordan has valuable experience.

Furthermore, we discussed practical pathways to attract increased Jordanian investment into Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, strengthening private sector engagement and supporting sustainable growth.
