"This is no ordinary job ... this is the Silver and Black."
Klint Kubiak understood the assignment.

sorry i just can't get over this, if you saw this happening in the opening to a movie it would be the most overwrought heavy-handed symbolism imaginable but it's just actually happening in real life. it's astonishing. god really is an artist
I watched a video about a female grizzly who adapted to raising her cubs within 100 ft of humans. Experts surmise that she does this because male grizzlies will avoid humans (and male grizzlies are a threat to cubs). So women pick the bear, the bear picked humans and no one picked men. A modern day fable if you will.
@sashabella_r The offhanded mention of the native plant garden just adds even more texture to the type of place this is. It's not even that a native plant garden is a bad thing, but its like yeah *of course* this covid-conscious lesbian bar would have one.
The lesbian bar story is a writing masterclass in how to include details that don’t necessarily advance the plot but enhance the work. Case in point: clown school
My most chud LGBTQ opinion is that it's not healthy for gay and lesbian nightlife to be too sex-segregated. Gay bar with no lesbians = racism and meth. Lesbian bar with no gays = no fun allowed ever. Stonewall was a mixed crowd and we are all better for it.
Bane (in a snugly fitting KN95 mask, holding a group of well-meaning queer entrepreneurs hostage on a zoom call): CENTRING WHITE TEARS AGAIN, BROTHER? BOO-HOO!
"The plan? Create a lore so complicated and bewildering that the Western Massachusetts lesbian bar currently hemorrhaging money recoups its losses by becoming an attraction for disbelieving tourists."
a lot of people join left wing spaces claiming they believe in a better world when in reality they want to use the language of liberation to squeak every last drop of interpersonal power out of this one
This is not a photograph.
Every leaf and every reflection was put there by hand, in oil, by the Danish painter Peder Mørk Mønsted in 1894.
It is called Wooded path by a river, and it captures the hardest thing there is to paint: a forest in full sunlight. Light through trees never falls evenly. It scatters into countless flecks of brightness and shadow, a glow on one leaf, darkness on the next, a glint on the water that would vanish the moment a cloud passed. Get those even slightly wrong, and the whole thing collapses into a green blur.
Mønsted got every one of them right, and in doing so he captured something anyone who has stood alone in a wood will recognize immediately: that hush that falls over you, the sense of being completely at peace, and the feeling that the whole world has paused to breathe…
