@man_of_options I’d go further: Show me the text where God changed pork and shellfish from sinful to permitted. Does not exist. There is no “New” Covenant. There is the faithful Covenant that Yah invites his people to join. So join! Or don’t. There is no “New” one.
@mattredegar@man_of_options Polygyny certainly IS endorsed, even REQUIRED sometimes in the Tanakh. How else can a man obey the instructions of Deuteronomy 25:5-10 in the case that he is already married?
As to the idea that it causes contentions, are you trying to say that monogamous marriage doesn’t?
@RagePool38@man_of_options So basically, there is no way to succeed. If one’s aim is to conform to His image, either: you’re not; or: you are, but by definition you’re “proud”, thus you begin again at step 1. Is that what you’re saying?
@tjxrewards@man_of_options Actually, it is ABSOLUTELY prescriptive in certain situations. Deuteronomy 25:5-10 requires a man whose brother dies before having a son to take his dead brother’s wife to produce a son to carry on his brother’s name. This is without regard to the man’s marital status.
@EthanDelaney95@man_of_options No. The “strange” woman is a “זוּר”, (“zoor”). This represents a prostitute or possibly a woman belonging to another man. Or even one belonging to another “god”.
To say that the second woman is “the strange woman” would be to say that Jacob’s second woman, Rachel, was “strange”.
@coachdebruyns@man_of_options 1. Proverbs is not a book of commands from the Creator. It is a book of wisdom.
2. Rob didn’t say it was the best idea. He said it is not identified specifically as “sin”.
@poladian57260@man_of_options “ you idiot”? Do you personally know Rob? That is a pretty disparaging pejorative to call somebody just because you disagree with him. Honestly, it does not reflect well on YOU.
@Weebeastie6@man_of_options > Yet here you people are because you want to have multiple sex partners and still feel righteous. Go spread the gospel and stop focusing on your lusts.
Really? You don't even know me. Try telling this to Jacob or Gideon or David; men who were close to the Father's heart.
@Weebeastie6@man_of_options > Slavery is not endorsed by God. You’re thinking of indentured servitude
I am thinking of Deut. 15:12-18, where one is sold into service
> This is the whole point of the Bible—that we need a savior because we can’t NOT sin
This is not true. Please read Deut. 30:11-14
@Weebeastie6@man_of_options Actually, regulation IS a form of endorsement, else it would not be regulated—it would be prohibited.
Western culture tells us that “slavery is evil”. Biblical slavery IS endorsed by the creator, and for good reason. So is biblical marriage and biblical polygyny.
