How does a sensory cue come to predict what will happen inside the body hours later?
In our new Trends in Neurosciences review, we examine how the insular cortex links sensory experience to predicted bodily states. @SailendKc@Neurosenblum@KobiRosenblum https://t.co/BMuWOLaysQ
Our latest research on ERK1/2 nuclear translocation in extinction learning is now published! We used viral-mediated peptide delivery to block nuclear ERK1/2 selectively. ERK1/2 nuclear translocation is critical for memory extinction. @lab_rosenblum

Thrilled to share our latest research on intra-insular circuits and their role in immune regulation and memory! We reveal how brain circuits encode immune memories, offering new insights into neuroimmune communication and how the brain can shape immunity. https://t.co/Eq3TREUUO0
A bidirectional anterior-posterior insula circuit mediates the conditioned immune response, wherein a sensory stimulus, after pairing with an immunomodulatory agent, evokes aversive behavior and an anticipatory immune response

Looks like ethanol-driven taste aversion memories also rely on parvalbumin inhibition on insular cortex neurons projecting to the amygdala. https://t.co/mCSV9cBgzv
How prior knowledge, novelty and valance are integrated in the anterior insula during real life experiences? Excellent Kumar and Adonis led the project. @neuradon13@SailendKc

Using retrograde viral tracing, behavioral analysis, and electrophysiology at the insular cortex, we reveal that the intrinsic properties of BLA-projecting neurons are regulated by innate and learned drives, as a function of certainty of taste valence prediction, but not percept.
So this is now officially out! Our studies @Neurosenblum demonstrate how interactions between defined inhibitory and excitatory cortical neurons undelie the coherency of aversive memory retrieval - an evolutionary pre-requisite for animal survival.
