For me, when I was trying to leave Nigeria, I had a lot of plans. I kept readjusting it every time.
At a point, I wanted to use school. I got denied visa.
I was so naive then and lacked a lot of information. I knew I was good but I was scared of the crowd at a point. I felt that there were a lot of talents jostling for the few opportunities. So, I concluded it’s better to travel out and it gets easier abroad. But it actually doesn’t. So, my plan was to use school. Because it is safer and your residency outside the country is longer and stabilized.
After my visa denial, I almost quit football. But I kept showing up. Hoping to meet a top agent. Some things were non negotiable for me.
- I always tried to get video compilations of me and I posted shamelessly.
I had big dreams. But I kept showing up for all good opportunities.
Through constantly showing up and NETWORKING with my fellow players, people around me knew I was good. So, they referred me to opportunities.
I got invited to Gbagada fc for trials. I showed up as I always do. I still don’t know what the coach saw. But, after a lot of rejections I had faced, that gave me a relief that yes, I had something. It was a new challenge. I embraced it and I proved myself on that level. It took mind away from traveling a bit. But it provided me materials to use to sell myself. And scouts and agents were watching games.
The plan has always been to build a life around the game. To compete against the best talents in the world, challenge myself at every level I find myself. I want to give this game everything I've got and see how far my talent, discipline, commitment and resilience can take me
I was invited to come watch a game yesterday, it was a match game at Kubwa, the boy who invited me say on the bench throughout the game.
He had hyped himself in my DM and talked about how he is the most important midfielder in the team.
I spoke to one player who caught my eyes though but he told me, he is a player for Derby I don't know if it is the FA.
I promised him I will be back though.
