Let us start with Vijayawada drainage basin. It is part of Krishna & Budameru basin part of Kolleru lake. Budameru basin has ~900sqkm of catchment basin till Vijayawada city with hills and lakes. 1/n

Why Vijayawada Floods Are a Man-Made Disaster
The primary cause of flooding in Vijayawada is the overflowing of the Budameru, not a breach. (breach happened on Sep 3, not before). It's called “The Sorrow of Vijayawada.” To mitigate this, the Budameru Diversion Channel (BDC) is used to redirect the Budameru flow into the Krishna River. In this context, the blue line represents the Budameru, while the yellow line indicates the Polavaram Right Main Canal (BDC)
