@TM9380 We had to span 500million years of life & make sure the main evolutionary story points were represented. So naturally there are massive chunks of time we have to miss out, but hopefully the overall narrative helps people understand the rough order of evolution and mass extintions

We also have to work within many constraints - that is the reality of life. Personally bringing the real world into it helps connect us to the modern day. It is more relatable.

We also had the challenge of summarising vast amounts of scientific theory and understanding. There is no pleasing everyone!
