The outcomes in the affirmative action, student debt relief, and public services for same-sex couples cases, not to mention last term's anti-abortion and gun decisions, cement the Supreme Court in direct ideological opposition with this and next generation of Americans.
Democrats, progressives, and civil rights advocates - people who are fighting for an inclusive, multiracial democracy that can one day live up to its ideals - have a decades-long march ahead to fight back and undo the setbacks and damage wrought by this Court.
The past 24 hrs makes clear: the Court is intent on achieving the long-term policy goals of the conservative movement, goals so unpopular and antithetical to the project of multiracial democracy that they must be achieved through the unelected branch. Goals decades in the making.
"While we are all disheartened and dismayed by this decision, we are also clear about the mandate that we all have before us, and that is not to abandon the project of diversity, but to double down on it, because that is what our democracy requires."

So exciting to see that this program may be codified into law - an important collaboration between @MichSoS and @MichiganDOC that I had the chance to help launch under @JocelynBenson’s leadership 🗳️
This is so important & codifies a partnership that already exists between our office & @MichiganDOC. Grateful to the lawmakers who are helping make this important program permanent under our law. Look forward to working with leaders on both sides of the aisle to get it enacted.
"So, today – on Military Spouse Appreciation Day – we want to recognize our nearly 1 million fellow active duty US military spouses by highlighting what would really make them feel appreciated: a job," write @brikeilarcnn & @AnneClaireCNN https://t.co/Ek3VSdqXzg
My heart is in East Lansing & with all of the families all over Michigan who have been living through this nightmare tonight. 💔 Enough. We shouldn’t have to live like this.
Parents across Michigan are on pins and needles calling their kids tonight, checking in on them and telling them they love them. It doesn't have to be this way.
Woke up thinking about Tyre Nichols’ family. Thinking about a man who was a father, a son, a friend. Thinking about how unsettling it was to have a countdown to the release of the tape. Thinking about what it means, for all of us, to have to go through this again & again & again.

“… liberty, justice, and equality should have their full meanings, consistent with the broad context of the Constitution, rather than the cramped definition of persons whose understanding of those concepts was corrupted, at least in part, by … inhumanity and bias.”
Wrote up some thoughts on yesterday's argument in Moore v. Harper for @just_security (thanks @rgoodlaw!) Bottom line - even a "compromise" position makes me very very nervous. @StrictScrutiny_
"It is my honor to utter the four most powerful words ever spoken in a democracy: The people have spoken."
— Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) after winning re-election
This is what it looks like when government agencies meet people where they are. Eliminating barriers and serving all residents. Thanks to team @MichSoS@JocelynBenson (led by @kcraine!), so many people are celebrating restored driving privileges this year. https://t.co/ZC7iKjm4Jc
Whitmer to name state Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden to the Michigan Supreme Court, the first Black woman to serve on the court in its 186-year history. Harris Bolden, 34, ran for the court this month but finished 3rd behind 2 incumbent justices. She will succeed Bridget McCormack.
