Ok…not been on X for a very long time, but…I need to ask a question. I’m confused! How on earth can there be more than 2 semi finals???? #olympics2024#100meters#Athletics
Unlike most mammals, hedgehogs don't have the Flight or Fight Response to danger. So no matter how frightened they are, they don't bite, and they don't run away.
Their response to danger is to curl up into a protective ball, and wait until the danger passes.
That's why so many get run over by approaching cars.
That's why so many are maimed and killed by approaching strimmers.
That's why so many get burned alive in bonfires.
Poking a stick under the bonfire pile will just make the hedgehog inside curl tighter.
Lighting it from one side will just make the hedgehog curl tighter.
Shining a light under the bonfire will just make the hedgehog curl tighter.
The only way to make a bonfire safe is to build it the same day you light it.
So if it's already built, you need to move it on the day you light it.
If you are starting to build it in advance then you MUST enclose the area with a hedgehog-proof fence, to ensure no hogs enter.
If you can take the trouble to have a bonfire🔥, then please take the trouble to do it safely.
Moving a bonfire🔥 never takes anywhere near as long as you think it will.
Don't let your bonfire🔥 be something you'll regret for the rest of your life.
It happened!❤️
Last night, dear tiny little Hartley came out and ate for himself.
Just 92g and so fragile, he had a little to eat and drink then (and I admit this broke me), he went back to bed and tried to tuck his sister Wintney back up.
But she then got up too, and lapped a little puppy mousse.
I am so happy!
After 7 days of teetering on the brink of life, the outlook for these precious little babies suddenly looks a little sunnier.
On November 7th, 1920, in strictest secrecy, four unidentified British bodies were exhumed from temporary battlefield cemeteries at Ypres, Arras, the Asine and the Somme.
None of the soldiers who did the digging were told why.
The bodies were taken by field ambulance to GHQ at St-Pol-Sur-Ter Noise. Once there, the bodies were draped with the union flag.
Sentries were posted and Brigadier-General Wyatt and a Colonel Gell selected one body at random. The other three were reburied.
A French Honour Guard was selected and stood by the coffin overnight of the chosen soldier overnight.
On the morning of the 8th November, a specially designed coffin made of oak from the grounds of Hampton Court arrived and the Unknown Warrior was placed inside.
On top was placed a crusaders sword and a shield on which was inscribed:
"A British Warrior who fell in the GREAT WAR 1914-1918 for King and Country".
On the 9th of November, the Unknown Warrior was taken by horse-drawn carriage through Guards of Honour and the sound of tolling bells and bugle calls to the quayside.
There, he was saluted by Marechal Foche and loaded onto HMS Vernon bound for Dover. The coffin stood on the deck covered in wreaths, surrounded by the French Honour Guard.
Upon arrival at Dover, the Unknown Warrior was met with a nineteen gun salute - something that was normally only reserved for Field Marshals.
A special train had been arranged and he was then conveyed to Victoria Station, London.
He remained there overnight, and, on the morning of the 11th of November, he was finally taken to Westminster Abbey.
The idea of the unknown warrior was thought of by a Padre called David Railton who had served on the front line during the Great War the union flag he had used as an altar cloth whilst at the front, was the one that had been draped over the coffin.
It was his intention that all of the relatives of the 517,773 combatants whose bodies had not been identified could believe that the Unknown Warrior could very well be their lost husband, father, brother or son...
THIS is the reason we wear poppies.
We do not glorify war.
We remember - with humility - the great and the ultimate sacrifices that were made, not just in this war, but in every war and conflict where our service personnel have fought - to ensure the liberty and freedoms that we now take for granted.
Every year, on the 11th of November, we remember the Unknown Warrior.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
It amazes me that despite tweeting 5 or 6 new bird photos every single day, despite paying for Twitter & having a big following, I still get followers saying they don't see my posts!🤯
Can you do me a favour?❤️

FORGIVE ME, MOMMY 😢🐾…
I was there where you left me for two whole days. Sleeping right on the side of the road. I was terrified of the noise from the cars but I did not move.
Last night one of those cars stopped and she got out. She invited me to lunch but I said no. She invited me to come sleep at her house and I also said no. I tried to explain to her that I was waiting for you but she wouldn’t listen. She pulled out a leash and said I couldn’t stay there any longer. I bit her several times and ended up peeing on myself as I growled and cried! She didn’t understand that she was separating me from you! She took me against my will and we drove off! I was so sad because I knew you were going to be worried. We ended up at her house.
I kept screaming hoping you would hear me but you never came. I vomited because of my nerves, feeling so sick. I kept telling her I had to go back because you were going to think I abandoned you when you saw I wasn’t there! I, who love you with all my heart and soul have not stopped crying since we separated a few days ago. I want you to know, I would never do that to you.
I don’t know where you are now or why you stopped the car and left me there. Surely you had something very important to do. Can you come find me now, mommy?
Today I ate because my tummy was hurting. I also slept on a very soft bed. And by accident I also wiggled my tail a bit. I’m so sorry, please forgive me. She’s just being really nice to me. She said I could stay forever. She’s calling me Milo but I already have a name. When you pick me up you can tell it to her. You’ll see how surprised she’ll be when you explain to her that this was a big mistake.
Because mommy, you’re coming back for me, right 😢🐾?

When you're looking the wrong way.... 😉
Came across this amazing scene this afternoon....😯
I'd never seen a Kingfisher at the Huntspill seawall before, the waters here are just shallow puddles, and it's so open! 🐦 @StephenMoss_TV
@ProtectWldlife These people are cruel and must be mentally sick. Is there really no way to stop this miserable and ridiculous behavior ? If they did this to humans they’d be convicted and imprisoned…..🤷♀️
Took the camera to Wagbachniederung just 20km south of us this afternoon and found Ruff, Dunlins, spoonbills, Avocets and herons just to name a few. What a great and special place. #BirdsSeenIn2023#biodiversity#Germany#BadenWürttemberg
