Market not too bothered by this - was Betaville yday so maybe undisturbed sub-40p? If you remember #OOUT from 2022, also market didn't respond but was ok in the end.
@graham69717 Disagree actually, seems like an ok debate (havent watched). Both are exaggerating things and misleading but point of debate is to iron that out. Too easy dismiss one as idiot. Does Grosvenor estate even pay the 6% he says? (beside the point) My understanding is NO, they fiddle
The masturbatory fervor around this clip is up there with the 2 stabbed jews for the parochial childishness of UK political discourse. It’s a debate, nothing he says is particularly “wrong”. Highlighting the forgiving tax legislation enjoyed by the aristocracy is entirely fair…
@graham69717 If you don’t like him fair, but is Priestley or anyone dismissing him as an idiot any more honest? IMO no, demonstrably in several areas just in that clip. People prefer playing a straw man because it’s easier.
@dannybo75414644@ariaclast It’s a debate largely around values and practicality- which is why Priestley quickly moves it on to the wealthy being mobile. The estate in question infamously doesn’t pay even the 6% Priestley claims due to various loopholes.
@CitizenSuburbia@intothefuture45 He clearly knows the difference- the point is that he thinks a massive inheritance shouldnt be taxed so much more favourably that income from work. Deal with the argument not a lazy straw man.
@MerrynSW@ryandaleyx Your business is propaganda as there is nothing he says that is particularly wrong. He asks why the Duke of Westminster should pay lower rates of deferred taxation on wealth. Perhaps you should give some tax advise to the family if you think they were wrong to set up the trust
