"The evidence is quite convincing that regular consumption of processed meats is detrimental to health, including colorectal cancer, Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease." -Dr. Frank Hu discusses processed meats w/ @nytimeswell.
And look, I get it.
They repealed Roe vs. Wade, nerfed the EPA, we're in year 3 of a pandemic, the economy just keeps crapping harder, mass shootings, police violence, on and on.
I grieve and fight all of it.
Also, I want this particular tree to not get killed by a truck.
The city has been great about planting saplings. In ten MORE years those will start providing some cooling and shade.
If they live.
Meanwhile, my street has gone from nice and shady to baking in these increasingly hot summers.
It shouldn't take an expert to explain to Massachusetts that a combo of sky-high housing costs and unreliable transit is deadly for low and moderate income workforce, but as I am one, let me say it.
I've just been told that Mayor @katjballantyne will not be reallocating funds to an alternative, non-police emergency response, as the Council formally asked her to do, at this time. Incredibly frustrating to be told about a willingness to collaborate and not see it in practice.

The thing that kills me is that the T should be capitalizing on this period of high gas prices to convince more folks to ditch their cars and take transit instead. Cutting service will do the exact opposite, in a region whose traffic looks like this at 2pm on a Friday
This has been the Governor's plan all along, cut funding, more austerity, cut services, erode reliability, cut funding again, hmm I guess we'll have to privatize the T now because "the government can't handle it".
It's on us now to elect a governor who is going to rebuild the T
Price for a barrel of oil today: $117.59
Price for a barrel of oil in 2014: $120.45
So why are gas prices 2 dollars higher per gallon today than they were in 2014?
Because Big Oil corporations are hiking prices to rake in record-setting profits.
You might think that was enough, but THERE IS MORE.
We're also a bunch of science nerds and the city is letting us do an experiment.
We're doing a pilot of something -different- in some empty tree pits.
Younger trees, integrated understory plantings, different compost.
