@rachaellehr @ponderingDan Thanks Rachel, that's awesome that you can acknowledge this is an ongoing conversation. I now have a better understanding of the importance of these conversations, in this growing idea of what education looks like and could look like. Thanks for sharing :) #PrimarySTEMchat
@BernadetteMbof1 @mrkempnz Thanks for asking for clarification. Starting with feedback to me looks like, when you see something act on it. If you cant talk to the student then, try do it later. Be insanely specific as this creates a culture of feedback. feel free to ask anymore questions :) #WhatIsSchool
@McKinnonAl To value them is to respect them. We need to include them in our learning, make sure they are on board with what we are teaching, so it can be a two way support network. keeping in regular communication and answering any questions they may have. #CScEdchatNZ
@McKinnonAl Q4: The Bible talks about a child like faith. I think kids have an amazing ability to see things for what they are, they are quick to forgive, trust and love. I believe us teachers can learn from children, as they show this everyday. #CScEdchatNZ
@McKinnonAl A3: I believe we should teach the bible at all times and only use words when we have to. This means leading by example, loving, understanding, forgiving ect. I think the bible fits into learning nicely and hope to include it in my teaching. #CScEdchatNZ
@McKinnonAl A2: I believe it is wrong to stereo type students as "good". Everyone is different and I think how they have grown up and what environment plays a massive role in their behavior. #CScEdchatNZ
@McKinnonAl A1: I understand this perspective as children have so much to learn, but calling them blank slates is very undermining. I believe they are unique and they write their own story based of the knowledge they learn. #CScEdchatNZ
@rachaellehr @ponderingDan Thanks Rachael, do you think this STEM acronym is a good outline of what education includes? Science Technology Engineering and Maths - How does English, sports, Arts and so many more subjects fit into this? Would love to hear your thoughts. #PrimarySTEMchat
@mrkempnz No worries, Thanks for bringing the clarification. This makes total sense. This can ensure the feedback is relevant and clear. I think it is always important to hear the students perspective and give them a chance to talk before the feedback. #PrimarySTEMchat
@ponderingDan A5: As a teacher communication with the parents is going to be key. Making sure they have an understanding of what their learning should include and provide examples; cooking, outside play, maths ect. #PrimarySTEMchat
@ponderingDan A4: Still unsure what STEM stands for? But I assume its to do with education. I think there is lots of new and useful opportunities for learning from home. #PrimarySTEMchat
@ponderingDan A2: Being a student Teacher and having been out of school for a few years, I am not familiar with any platforms to communicate on. Would love to learn what some useful ones are! #PrimarySTEMchat
@ponderingDan A1: I'm a student Teacher in New Zealand. None of the schools have been closed due to #Covid_19 yet. Would love to hear more on other peoples ideas on how to effectively use technology for learning. This is having a huge impact. #PrimarySTEMchat
Hi Dan and #PrimarySTEMchat crew, I'm Samara! I'm in my first year of my diploma in christian education at Laidlaw college. Based in Auckland NZ. I am nervous about the closure as I don't see this going away soon and am unsure how being online can work for a long period of time.
I love that we can all work together to find ways to include all different learners. This article talks about providing PD to teachers so they can understand and have tools/opportunities to address this. I think deeper understanding the differences is the key to problem solving.
@nmielee@mrkempnz Good point Nicholas, how do you suggest we build strong relationships? And is that with the students or with the Teachers? #whatisschool
A3: I believe that feedback is what motivates students to make positive changes. I plan to keep sticky notes throughout the week of feedback, keeping a record of what each student is doing well. This way I can make sure my feedback is relevant, true, and impactful. #whatisschool

Q3: We know feedback to learners is the number one strategy to lift learning. What have you done, or plan to do, to lift your ability to give impactful learner feedback? #whatisschool
