The three winners — Brad Lander in NY-10, Daria-Elisa Chevalier in NY-13, and Clara Valdez in NY-7 — ran on a platform the party establishment dismissed as fringe: abolish ICE, “𝘍𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦”, organize unions, join the DSA. Chevalier chanted “𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘢 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘮𝘣𝘴” at her victory rally. These are now Democratic nominees for Congress.

The most stunning upset: Chevalier beat 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐄𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭 in NY-13. And who showed up to celebrate with her? Anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil — the Columbia encampment organizer who faced deportation for 𝐩𝐫𝐨-𝐇∗𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 according to the White House. He and Chevalier built those Columbia encampments together, and he appeared at her victory party in person.

Khalil posted on X with a message to the political class: “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯.”

Two-term incumbent Dan Goldman also fell in NY-10 — beaten by Brad Lander, the same Mamdani-backed wave. Goldman had recently been banned from a New York City coffee shop for supporting Israel. He was never a hardline defender of Israeli policy, but being insufficiently anti-Israel is now enough to lose your neighborhood and then your congressional seat in New York’s Democratic Party.

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s financial disclosure this year went through a remarkable transformation. The original 2025 filing — covering calendar year 2024 — showed a combined household net worth of 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 $𝟑𝟎 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧. The bulk came from her husband Tim Mynett’s business holdings: Rose Lake Capital listed at $5—$25 million, and eStCru Wines at $1—$5 million.

Republicans noticed and began pushing for an investigation into the couple’s finances.

Then came the amendment. Omar’s office filed a corrected disclosure showing household assets of just $18,000 to $95,000 — and listed Mynett’s companies under assets as “𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘦.” The explanation: an “𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫.”

Here’s what doesn’t add up. Even in the amended filing, Mynett’s company Rose Lake Capital reported income of $100,000 to $1 million for the year. His other ventures also showed income. So the companies are earning six figures — but their asset value is suddenly listed as zero? A business generating $100K—$1M annually and worth nothing?

To go from $30 million in disclosed net worth to $18,000 in assets overnight, with the entire explanation being a “𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦,” is either the most spectacular accounting error in congressional history or it’s something else entirely. Fox News, the Star Tribune, and CBS Minnesota all confirmed both the original filing and the amendment.

Republicans aren’t done asking questions. Neither should the rest of us.
