Great to read and now see RGT going so well with multiple Ajax's zipping about. Due to Putin's aggression it looks like its going to be the exactly right vehicle for the exactly right time. And within the £5.5bn which is nice during a time of inflation.
@thinkdefence The Army have a £33Bn plan for modernisation that has remained stable post Ukraine. We would all want some of that faster (as the threat has appeared earlier than planned) but it knows what it wants and NATO knows what it wants from it. Expeditionary Combined Arms Land Warfare.
@FTusa284@NAOorguk It’s not a criticism - you are great at calling the institution to account - I am just saying there is a big difference between what we say we are going to spend and what we actually do. In an honest democracy - I just think that reality needs real clarity.
@FTusa284@NAOorguk I agree, we are all passionate about the Army - you have been a consistent and positive challenge to the institution. I just think the accounts hide the reality - I would be happier if we admit that we have not been able to put a decent order in to uk industry for 25 years.
@FTusa284@NAOorguk It’s not an attitude it’s a question. Let’s get the figures. What did we plan, what did spend, what were we allowed to spend. There has to be more to this than the Army are deliberately incompetent.
@FTusa284@NAOorguk Probably need plans and actuals for us to all to come to a fair view - I think you just have planned figures. +EPP or ESP IS ? Really easy to solely blame the Army. Expenditure controlled by HMT & MOD, delivery thru agents. Army have issues yes but can’t be blamed for everything.
@thinkdefence A potential oversimplification - all capability was run from the MOD at this time. Army was force generating and fighting. Boxer, AJAX and CR3 now being built in UK - Note the politico-economics have changed. HMT rules changed - LIS launched - Army are on it - good stuff coming.
@thinkdefence Pilots and ground crew are expensive. (All people are) Full cap rates for 6 additional crews plus ground crew - probably another 40-50m / 10 years. Worth thinking about.
A privilege to have worked on this study with Lieutenant General Mykhaylo Zabrodskyi, Oleksandr V. Danylyuk and Nick Reynolds for @RUSI_org. An incomplete, but hopefully useful baseline for learning lessons in conventional warfighting from Ukraine: https://t.co/KGm6j5iXsB
@thinkdefence There are entire sections of the Army and Defence doing just that, all of the time, every day, every week: @LWC_UK, @Int_Corps @MOD_DCDC. Furthermore CGS has told to the entire Army to mobilise for war in Europe - I think the Army are paying attention.
