Melbourne born, farm manager at Mungindi. Agriculture is where you want to be for a worthwhile, meaningful career with endless scope, potential & possibility
Farmers don’t want bandaid flood handouts.
We need government investment in public infrastructure so we can get on with business. Eg: Roads, rail & ports.
Road repair needs to start immediately so we can move agricultural produce to markets. https://t.co/Bj3Eei3Adq
Weakening of #LaNina & -SPMM evident over past several weeks. The SPMM actually looks to have flipped to positive in December. SPO no longer negative & +SPMM persisting in the coming months coupled with a strengthening +PMM would be supportive of a flip to #ElNino later in 2023.
Beef and cropping seem to have labour sorted better than sheep systems. Beef has the north (generating numbers of competent stock people) and cropping seems to have more interest in tech machinery. What’s the answer for the sheep industry to fix on farm labour ? Thoughts ?
Excellent turn out at the Marketing and Fibre Quality Workshops held in Goondiwindi & Mungindi yesterday.
If you didn’t make it, stay turned for the next CottonInfo podcast featuring our CottonInfo Fibre Quality Technical Lead Rene van der Sluijs who presented yesterday 👌🏻
For those interested in reasons behind the fish kills at Menindee, please see media from Central Darling Shire. It doesn’t help those on site witnessing them though.
@cropmad
As much as the anti-irrigation lynch mob have done their best to somehow spin the fish kills on Northern Basin irrigators the real scientists say - someone shut the weir & diverted the 1.2GL/day flow to the lakes, dissolved oxygen dropped & fish died.

Old farmers crying there’s not enough young hardworking people in AG…then screaming not like this! Guess long haired freaky people need not apply. Would you die of a heart attack if I told you I’m owner AND operator?
How has the world managed to feed a rapidly growing population with ever-shrinking land resources?
A big part has been increasing crop yields — e.g., we can now produce more than three times as much cereal from a given area of land as we could in 1961.
