Having seen both films, I noticed they both tackle themes of loneliness which is increasingly relevant in a post Covid social media saturated world.
The success of both of them says a lot about what the younger generation is feeling.
*spoilers*
I think that having bear kill himself after nikki begs him to kill her knowing both options would end the wish and then ultimately leaving her with the pieces to pick up and essentially having no consequences is a really important piece of this that we should discuss
one of the reasons OBSESSION is such an upsetting film for me is that from our very first introduction to Nikki she’s a genuine kind person. we see her giving cash to a homeless person, she was always there for Bear when nobody else was and then we just watch her suffer. dreadful
The movie is about an innocent girl losing her autonomy and becoming a puppet to a man’s selfish wish. Ultimately, the moral is that he’s the one who’s “obsessed” because he takes advantage of her “condition” to forge a one-way relationship where he only cares if she loves him.
‘Obsession’ director Curry Barker has already filmed his next horror film ‘ANYTHING BUT GHOSTS’
