We talked about target marketing in class on Monday. Do you think this is beneficial as you could possibly have easier access to the things you want or is this to manipulative and invasive especially considering data mining? #j201 #307
@sophiavitaioli I definitely connected with many of the experiencers characteristics. I tend to be spontaneous, social, and I like to think that I stand out from the general population #j201 #307
@redhead6158 After looking though all of the categories of the VALS framework on Monday I think I’m most like either an innovator or an experiencer. I also think I tend to avoid believers and makers #j201 #307
@redhead6158 I think the use of famous people to prompt a product has a pretty big effect on me. For example I looove Tom Hiddleston so if he promotes a product I think I’d be much more likely to be persuaded to like and buy that product. #j201 #307
@kaylachilly @clove_rew I agree. I think the science is there and the facts and opinions from both sides of this issue are known. At this point I think people are far to polarized and set in there ways to be persuaded in anyway unfortunately. #j201 #307
The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issue of our time, yet there are many people who still don’t believe climate change is even real. What kind of methods fo you think would be most effective in persuading people to recognize the severity of the issue? #j201 #307
#j201 #307 we talked a lot about social media this week, specifically Facebook. What do you think about Facebooks “Meta” rebranding. Is this a good or bad thing for the company? For us? For the world? #j201 #307
@redhead6158 I see it often and I definitely think it affects people including me. If it’s a celeb I like I think I’m more inclined to agree with them. However if a celeb that I like says something I strongly disagree with my opinion on them would change and I’d like them less. #J201 #307
@BensonAmbria I think they could be as widely used as they are now but they wouldn’t be as profitable. One of the biggest ways they make $ is though ads. If they didn’t collect info on people’s habits and interests it would be harder to target ads to them and they’d make less $ #J201 #307
@StrucelJacob I totally agree. The sharp snd deep divide in media plays a big role in the decide in our country. This division will never be healed unless the media divide is fixed too. #j201 #307
@Susannah_radick Vertical is when a company owns every step in their process like Macdonald’s owning dairy farms to resultant. Horizontal is when a company owns lots of different things like Disney owning marvel, the theme parks, Star Wars, etc. #j201 #307
@jude_woythaler I think it has the potential to be very bad. If one company has a monopoly over a large number of news networks then they control what news and messages are put out. This would increase bias even more and important information might not get reported on. #j201 #307
The article “Biden’s Media Campaign by Charles Cooke comes from a more conservatively biased publication. It definitely contained bias and yet the article was about the evils of media bias. Do you think we can ever escape media bias or is it inevitable? #J201 #307
@melaniegubernik I think it’s because the times tends to be more used and read by liberals in my experience. Madison and Milwaukee are largely liberal. #UWJ201 #307
@LiamKelso10 I thought the stuff about magical thinking and what makes people more likely to believe in conspiracy theories was super interesting #UWJ201 #307
This week we talked about how local smaller news sources tend to be less biased. Can we transfer this onto larger sources or are they condemned to bias because of corporate money and profit #UWJ201 #307
@the_main_jane #UWJ201 #307 I totally agree and it’s completely a product of sexism and the patriarchal society we exist in. As women it’s been ingrained in us that our opinions and voices don’t matter as much as men. We’re not as smart, informed, valid, etc. Which is of course not true.
