This is our Aviation Intel Assesment
The situation in the Persian Gulf & adjacent airspace has escalated to **catastrophic levels** (Threat Level 5) following the US-Israel joint strikes on Iran (which killed Supreme Leader Khamenei) and Iran's massive retaliatory salvos.
Key aviation impacts from the latest intel assessment (Update 03, ~1900 UTC March 1, 2026):
All major Gulf FIRs CLOSED (Iran, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, etc.) — no viable routing through the region.
-Jordan FIR (OJAC) now RESTRICTED (FL200+ govt-only) after confirmed Fatah-2 hypersonic missile transits — primary northern bypass corridor compromised.
Egypt (Sinai sector east of 32°E) restricted/partial closure — HEEE FIR severely strained, risking full closure.
Widespread GPS jamming/spoofing extended eastward to 68°E (affecting Pakistan approaches: Karachi, Lahore, Quetta + Mumbai western sectors).
Multiple airlines grounded/rerouting: Emirates & Qatar Airways fully grounded; PIA rerouting; Air India/IndiGo using southern corridors; Turkish/ Lufthansa restricted/congested.
Strait of Hormuz de facto closed → critical fuel supply disruptions projected within 72 hours at regional hubs.
Insurance shock: Lloyd's formally excluded hull war risk coverage for Gulf, Levant & Arabian Peninsula ops effective 1800 UTC today.
Northern bypass (Pakistan → Europe via OAKX-UTAV-LTAA) remains the last semi-viable option but with heavy caveats (Iranian drone activity risk + Afghan FIR contingencies). Southern/ eastern routings via Indian Ocean or Central Asia are seeing heavy congestion.
This is now a multi-front regional conflict with cascading effects on global aviation — expect daily industry losses in the $1.2–1.5B range, stranded aircraft, and extreme crew/fuel planning challenges.
Operators: Suspend Gulf ops, pre-file northern contingencies, treat GNSS as unreliable, uplift max fuel where possible. Monitor ICAO NOTAMs obsessively.
Aviation has entered one of its most disrupted phases in modern history. Stay safe up there. #AviationSafety #MiddleEastConflict #AirspaceClosure
