@LK_UrbanSwagger@RutgersAltRoute I also think it is important to hear the bully's side of the story to know why they bully and how to properly handle the situation.
@BreanneLong17@RutgersAltRoute I too feel it is important to take time from the lesson to remind students about the skills they need in order to be kind and responsible people.
@RutgersAltRoute I learned that it is important to communicate with the parents on multiple platforms for good and bad behavior. I also learned that it is important to constantly communicate with the students so they can get to know you and not act up as much. #AltRtEd#Standuptobullying
@nygiantsnjgrl@RutgersAltRoute I also think it is important to not judge, but if the actions or behavior are disrupting the rest of the class, I think it is important to report certain incidents to the appropriate parties within the school.
@scplassmann2@RutgersAltRoute Parental advice and therapy are definitely needed in order to understand why a student is bullying others as well as how to properly handle punishing a bully for their actions.
@Andrew_Garda@RutgersAltRoute I also think it is important to make the students feel safe so they can tell an adult they trust what is going on and how to handle if they are being bullied or harassed.
@RutgersAltRoute A5: Communicate with students to know what they need, how to help them learn, and how to deal with any bullies. It is also important to let other teachers, guidance counselors, parents, etc. know how to better protect the students around bullies. #AltRtEd#Standuptobullying
@NickMontagna1@RutgersAltRoute I also feel like the rest of the class is impacted by a bullying situation to some degree. Do you feel the size of the class influences what impact bullying has on other students? Why or why not?
@JoeMalyack @RutgersAltRoute I also think it is important to understand other people's point of view so no one gets misunderstood and so the situation can be handled in the appropriate manner.
@Andrew_Garda@RutgersAltRoute I agree that it is important to make a distinction between making a joke and making a hurtful comment. This should also be discussed with students so they know not to do it in school/online so no one gets hurt any further.
@RutgersAltRoute A4: Challenges would be trying to get the bullies to comply with their consequences and knowing how to prevent worse situations from happening, but the learning opportunity would be seeing what tactics students use to harass/bully. #AltRtEd#StandUpToBullying
@cibaena_46@RutgersAltRoute It's nice that you communicate with parents on multiple platforms so they know what their child is doing in school and how to handle them.
@LawrenceChiang6@RutgersAltRoute I like how talk to other teachers to get to know how the students act in other classes so you can know how to handle said students if they are being unreasonable or out of control.
@RutgersAltRoute A3: I regularly talk with the other 8th grade teachers, the special ed teachers, the security guards, and the vice principals to know how to deal with specific students. I also notify the parents on Talking Points about their child's behavior. #AltRtEd#Standuptobullying
@DavidD_Rutgers@RutgersAltRoute I like how you have key phrases associated with appropriate classroom behavior. What do you do if the students are being too loud for an extended period of time? How do you handle that?
@KyleWal54389073@RutgersAltRoute I agree that having too much down time in the classroom is not good because the students will not be engaged and think they can do whatever they want without consequences.
@Andrew_Garda@RutgersAltRoute I also think it is important to pay attention to everything that is happening because the context of the situation can influence how to deal with the students in question.
@RutgersAltRoute A2: I could adjust my seating charts, talk to the other teachers the students have in order to know the context of their relationships with other students, & talk to the parents privately #AltRtEd#Standuptobullying
@SunflowerYA5@RutgersAltRoute I like how you review the class rules with your students at the beginning of class everyday so they know what the expectations are and what consequences they could face as well.
