@jjelin@zdch@Noahpinion Mental illness is pretty squishy. Going to a doctor and saying you think you have a mental illness is pretty much enough to get diagnosed, vs physical illness where there are actual tests. Not necessarily ‘not real’ but some societal pressure to self over-diagnose
Deadpool presentssss… Arena Grande!
A totally serious, absolutely normal celebration of April POOL's Day.
Queue up, cause chaos, and enjoy the nonsense while it lasts.
Reacher is a wonderful TV show that asks its audience to ponder how many situations they can think of in which a bunch of skinny dumb fucks think they can beat up what appears to be the human personification of the Ford F-350 SuperDuty
@zdch I used to be a lot more pro-legalization on everything, but esp weed. Everyone used to say ‘do you know what the LD50 is on Marijauna?’ Then once it was legal suddenly that seems to have been taken as a challenge. Nobody was thinking 1000 mg edibles 20 years ago.
@jfwong The real inflection point is when people realize that you are not limited by trying to mimic traditional filmmaking. Leaning into hallucinations or the fact you can do things that would be physically impossible or cost prohibitive traditionally. The discovery phase will be cool.
@jfwong Oh for sure, but we're also going to see really cool stuff from small independent filmmakers. The same way that digital cameras, then iPhones, dramatically increased the number of people who could film their own movies, this has the opportunity to do that w/ more epic stories
@Chosler@jfwong I don't even think it's stuff like "agi around the corner!" that matters right now, AI is going to totally transform the entire knowledge economy in a way that is very hard to grasp. We are getting very close to at least the level of "her."
@Chosler@jfwong I suspect you have not actually seen how much stuff like Claude Code or the agentic stuff has advanced in the last few months. The newer models + tools are dramatically more impressive than than what most people could've imagined even a year ago.
@Noahpinion I have no doubt that the majority of people fighting for this have the best of intentions, but bureaucracy destoys all good intentions. The second it becomes a defacto treatments option for expensive alternatives, systems will figure out how to push it on people.
@Noahpinion Once you add a tool into the tool belt of a bureaucracy, you can’t be surprised when it gets used. If you are struggling with chronic health issues or mental health, and see assisted dying literature / are given it as an option time and time again….a lot of people will use it
doing some more testing, ladders don't seem to work, the system started the scene without control, having her climb the ladder and did an interesting sort of side climb at the top but was unable to provide any control on actually using the ladder, additionally, transparent clothing collapses into photogrammetry-like solid forms, this definitely looks like more evidence of something beyond pure video gen, to me
