No, this is completely false. The CFPB focused solely on consumer protection following 2008 distinctly because other regulatory agencies could easy encounter conflicts of interest between BANK stability and consumer protection. When these pieces are fragmented across the FTC, OCC, Fed, etc., like they were prior to 2008, a lot of predatory practices fall through regulatory cracks - often at the expense of consumers, not financial institutions. I’m genuinely confused why anyone is praising this or ignorantly just believing it was wasteful. The CFPB was intentionally funded directly through the Federal Reserve rather than congress in order to shield it from political pressure, industry influence, etc., compared to other regulatory bodies. Absolute brain worms shit.
