I heard that eclipses get much darker than our eyes can see because they have time to adjust. This is what a total eclipse looks like if our eyes don't have time to adjust. One picture every 1-2 minutes for two hours. The house lights turn on only during totality. @spacedontwait

For the cynical voices inside us that say, "Well, you could look dumb *and* be dumb," it's true that you have to believe you can learn in order to do hard things.
Learning journeys are very humbling.
I'm always tempted to invest more in looking smart than in doing smart things. Some of the dumbest things I've done in my life have been while trying too hard not to look dumb.
My newest conviction: I'd rather *look* dumb than *be* dumb.
