What Peter Obi means is that:

—Nigerian Students benefitting from NELFUND are animals

—The parents of those students are animals

—The pensioners getting their money with 10% increase are animals

—Investors coming into the country are animals

—Bianca Ojukwu is an animal

—All the governors receiving 3x FAAC are animals

—The workers that are getting their salaries as at when due are animals.

It will be said of Peter Obi that he used his own mouth destroyed his own political career.

Peter Obi’s political style has always left me wondering what exactly some voters see in him. To me, he comes across as someone who struggles to understand the realities and complexities of Nigerian politics.

I genuinely find it difficult to understand why the people of Anambra chose him twice, considering the way he presents himself politically. Maybe his supporters see qualities in him that I simply don’t see, but personally, I don’t think he has the political depth or temperament needed for the national stage.

A man just stood before Nigerians and, without knowing it, read his own obituary.

First, Peter Obi has finally stumbled into an admission of the monumental failure of his administration to adequately invest in the health sector of Anambra State - a failure so profound that doctors downed tools and patients were left to their fate.

He has also inadvertently confessed to his inability to manage people. For 13 months, an essential workforce could remain on strike under a sitting governor without a workable compromise being reached.

Even children have managed to tame stubborn monkeys - Yet, Peter couldn't reason with intelligent doctors.

The dispute did not emerge from thin air. At the heart of the doctors’ grievance was poor remuneration, including the infamous ₦10 hazard allowance - an amount so derisory that even a child’s goody-goody money commanded greater value.

So, what exactly was the governor doing for 13 months?

He could neither adequately manage resources nor successfully manage the people whose expertise was indispensable to the health of his state.

“There was no mass death.”

Apparently, in Peter Obi's arithmetic, as long as dead bodies were not dropping like flies on the streets, the system was working.

By that logic, 50, 100 or even more avoidable, preventable, needless deaths every month could apparently be tolerated - provided the number never became “mass” enough to shock the conscience.

What a man.

Meanwhile, those who could afford it had to look elsewhere for medical care, with Lagos becoming a destination for patients who could escape Anambra’s collapsing healthcare system. Even the popular Onitsha movies of that era captured the desperation and dysfunction of the period.

And this is the man some people want to impose on an entire population again - not because the record is impressive, but because they believe he is sufficiently predictable, sufficiently pliable and easy enough for their political handlers to manipulate.
