My recent Substance Designer grass material. Every new material I'm learning a ton about the strengths and weaknesses of creating stylized PBR textures in Designer.
Do you prefer Designer or other methods for tiling texture creation?
#3dart#gamedev
I've been working on a "friendly" 3d stylized pack, rounded edges, simplified details. Goal is to make enough packs that you can build a whole game in this style.
My question. Are there #indiedev s that are interested in this?
@sfeist_3dart Change your shortcut keys to reflect your muscle memory from max. Probably should shortcut delete history too as you’ll need delete history often
@artofjeffp Weighted normals through a modifier. Easier to do weighted normals in blender than Maya.
I’ve never rotated an individual normal in blender. Just use a modifier to point towards a different object. Modifiers can be masked by vert groups as well
@artofjeffp Transferring normals is done through modifiers. Auto smooth 180 degrees for soft edges on the whole mesh. Then you can add hard edge seams. I have hard edge and uv seams on shortcuts next to each other with pressing alt + shortcut to un-set the edge or seam.
@mvandevander@BenSimsTech Have you turned on SRP batching? That’ll batch shaders together. How many draw calls do you have? And what does the frame debugger say why the draw calls can’t be batched together
@verseknightxdev Wonder how you are optimizing. Your stats aren’t showing any “saved by batching” batching goes a long way to improve performance. There’s a lot of other things you can do too. Turn on SRP batcher to shader batch. Making sure objects are set to static. Atlasing and combining mats
@Playwith_Josh I agree. Asset packs are invaluable for indie game devs, but main characters or creatures you are constantly interacting with should get some extra love.
Most players aren’t playing as many farming sims as you though! So they aren’t likely to notice as much
@artofjeffp Oh yea. I’ve hot keyed a few pivot changes like center or align to 3D cursor. Insert to move the pivot( at least on my hotkeys)+ vert/normal snap is the closet to a Maya style pivot placement I’ve gotten in Blender
@FireTotemGames Maintainer is useful if you want to purge your project of the old materials without accidentally deleting any material currently in use
What #3Dart assets is the #gamedev community lacking. I’m trying to fill voids where programmers and designers can’t find enough quality art assets. Wether a certain style or genre
