It’s a social media meets blogging meets Patreon (if you want it to). It’s where many writers and podcasters have gone and made a lot of money and grown massive audiences. It’s the space to be in if you’re an independent / entrepreneurial journalist/writer/talking head especially.
Substack is filled with AI slop which is extremely apparent - not hard to figure out and it’s exhausting; people waxing poetic constantly on random subjects in order to position themselves as some sort of thought leaders. Constant long essays that say.. nothing beyond a surface level thesis.
But these AI detection programs are notoriously inaccurate as well and while it may help curb the slop it will also leave a lot of good writers - the kind AI models try to emulate - in very vulnerable position.
Today, Substack is launching an AI detection feature, via an integration with @pangram. Going forward, you’ll be able to scan posts, replies, and comments on the Substack app to see an estimate of how much of it was written by a human, or with AI assistance.
All of this. Anyone sharing the Kirkpatrick NYer piece as anything other than a complete whitewash job is either cynical or a dope. It’s pure reputation laundering, not an account of reality or a remotely adversarial piece of journalism
Everything that we see right now is pointing towards erasure and revisionism of what happened under the Biden administration and what happened to the Palestinians. There is no room for the crumbs that are being forced on us.
There is also no room for “regret” from people who helped not only slaughter Palestinian families, but also participated in the demonization and criminalization of the anti-genocide movement in this country.
This is ridiculous propaganda that is trying to clean up the image of the war criminals who absolutely were aware of what Israel was doing and was planning on doing from day one. Jake Sullivan KNEW. Blinken KNEW. McGurk KNEW. They all knew everything we all witnessed - and even more. They lied every single day and they gave Israel a blank check to slaughter children and exterminate entire families.
The author of this piece - David D. Kirkpatrick - also co-wrote an October 2023 piece (“Hamas Propaganda) with Adam Rasgon that collapsed Palestinian journalists into Hamas. Horrific read that I taught in my class on the media & genocide as a prime example of genocide manufacturing.
By also making this about Netanyahu, the entirety of Israeli state and society - complicit and supportive of the extermination - is protected.
Absolute drivel and that the NYT stenographer for the Biden admin - Peter Baker - is sharing it, tells you what you need to know about the function of this piece.
Jake Sullivan regrets not doing more to restrain Israel. Biden fell into "the trap" of deferring arms halt thinking deal was imminent. "I will say straightforwardly—we should have put more pressure on Israel to take a different approach," he tells @ddk_nyc https://t.co/avjuDdSbeW
These people should never be allowed to whitewash the blood on their hands. All they can offer is carefully timed and curated “regret”. Even the fires of hell would reject these people.
the unhinged political anthropological flapping discourse happening around Argentina/Spain is so weird. it was a funny villainous arc and now it’s become another front in the ever-expanding state of global war and decay
This is a non-answer. Mamdani cannot arrest Netanyahu (The United States is not a party to the Rome Statute, foreign affairs are a federal matter, etc.) Moreover, as a sitting prime minister, Netanyahu has a strong claim to immunity ratione personae before U.S. courts.
If Mamdani wants to take tangible action within the bounds of his office, he could easily urge Attorney General and other relevant authorities to go after New York-registered tax-exempt organizations that funnel tens of millions of US dollars into Israeli settler expansion and violence every year (not niche, irrelevant orgs like Betar that are discredited by even the ADL, but consequential organizations like the Smotrich-founded Regavim, or the Israel Land Fund). Why won't he do that?
this article is even funnier after the abysmal, unprofessional and gross conduct of Argentina in yesterday’s game - especially after the final whistle. jacobin, always at the scene!
This is how Matt Taibbi responded to Mike Pence signing bombs bound for Gaza: “Okay, that’s kind of awesome. I’m sorry. I know it’s bad because it’s killing innocent people, but I’m sorry... It’s just hardcore... I think it’s funny.”
I don’t understand how you can witness what’s happening on the ground, then come back and say “the Israelis have a right to defend themselves but the Palestinians do not.”
truly just inject this into my veins - and this is the line of questioning and accountability, from Scahill, you get when you’re not vested in the Democratic Party and support Palestinian resistance to U.S.-backed Israeli extermination. Not that PR fluff.
This was an incredible interview that everyone needs to watch. Expect more of exactly what Ro Khanna is doing from other politicians in the run up to 2028: cynically using Palestinians, to position themselves as in line with a growing anti-Israel base while not really doing much of anything to hold the U.S. govt policies and Israel accountable for the occupation, apartheid and genocide.
This is all image management and @jeremyscahill showcases it by this brilliant interrogation.
Watching Jeremy Scahill make Ro Khanna visibly uncomfortable by needling his support for Iron Dome and condemnation of the Palestinian Resistance was a great start to the day
Wish there were more principled left voices holding politicians accountable for their liberal Zionism
Another cold blooded execution by ICE today in Maine, just days after the murder in Houston. The only acceptable position for politicians is eliminating the agency. Do not for one minute tolerate any politician calling for "training" or "body cameras." The demand is clear.
More from MS NOW: President Trump plans to deliver a Thursday evening speech addressing newly declassified intelligence reports that the White House asserts reveal plans by foreign nations to interfere in the 2020 election, according to two White House officials granted anonymity to discuss internal plans. @jake__traylor
There are no words for how horrifying this footage is. They shot him in the head, after shooting at him six times, and then slammed his head to the ground. These details don’t matter to the sanctity of life and the criminality of this execution, but this was a legal resident who was not even their target. Barbaric.
They killed Keith Porter, Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo - and so many others - and for each person they’ve killed, there is every excuse with all the impunity.
The Minneapolis Uprising against the government’s Operation Metro Surge should have ignited country wide uprisings, but it was buried - reporting on Minneapolis has been abysmal and the city continues to be ignored. And because of that, we can expect more and more of these killings.
