“Last night, an unbearably foul smell spread across Gaza City. At first, you start second-guessing yourself. You wonder if it’s coming from the bathroom or from one of your sleeping children. You check everything, but you can’t find the source.

Then messages start pouring into our journalists’ groups. Everyone is smelling the same thing. It has seeped into homes and tents, from the Tuffah and Daraj neighborhoods in the east all the way to Beit Lahia in the west.

Eventually, we learn that Israeli aircraft had dropped hundreds of foul-smelling bubbles across the area, apparently to contaminate the air.

Yes. Even the air, it seems, is more than they think we deserve.”

Fares ends with a furious condemnation of the Israeli occupation, describing it as “the lowest, vilest, most despicable and repulsive thing humanity has ever known.”

The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention is appalled by the proposed sale of $2.8 billion in heavy weapons to Israel that was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on 15 September 2026. The sale would take place via the U.S. Foreign Military Financing mechanism, which allows foreign countries to use U.S. taxpayer dollars to purchase weapons from U.S. companies. This arms transfer is one of the largest transfers of heavy weapons to Israel in U.S. history. It is out of step with American public opinion and constitutes a direct threat to international peace and security.

Over the past two years, Israel and the U.S. have purposefully and publicly shifted the overton window on how much impunity a state can enjoy to commit war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

Throughout all of this, world leaders and international institutions have refused to call Israel and the U.S. to account. They have handed Prime Minister Netanyahu a blank cheque to continue to violate the Genocide Convention, the Hague Conventions, and the Geneva Conventions. Now, he appears to be preparing to cash that cheque in an effort to achieve his dual goals of Greater Israel and increased Israeli influence over the Middle East, the South Caucasus, and corridors to Central Asia.

It is obvious what must happen next. Given the clear signs of a serious risk for escalating mass atrocity, State Parties to the Genocide Convention have an obligation to take action to prevent the U.S. and Israel from using these weapons to continue to commit genocide in Palestine and to expand destruction to the rest of the Middle East, ushering in what will most certainly become a World War.

I just went through the reports coming out of Gaza between 10 a.m. local time and now, 6:25 p.m., and this is what happened:

A Palestinian named Karam Masaad succumbed to injuries he sustained from Israeli gunfire in al-Nuseirat Camp in central Gaza.

A child was killed after a woodworking machine fell on them.

A pregnant woman was shot and wounded by Israeli fire in al-Nuseirat Camp in central Gaza.

In al-Bureij Camp, another woman was shot in the neck by Israeli forces.

A third woman was critically wounded by Israeli artillery shelling in Jabalia, northern Gaza.

Part of the second floor of an already unstable building collapsed in Gaza City. Five children were injured. The kids are in good condition.

Israel carried out another strike in Gaza. At least one Palestinian was killed and several others were wounded, including a child who was in critical condition. Some reports say the child has since died.

➤ In late August, just two months after it opened, Israel bombed a desalination station in Sheikh Radwan, Gaza City, that was supplying approximately Palestinian 10,000 families.

➤ Israeli attacks previously destroyed desalination stations in Rimal and eastern Gaza, and struck a water truck, fuel tanks, and equipment belonging to another station.

➤ Residents are now forced to wait for water trucks that may never arrive or walk long distances for a few liters.

➤ Palestinian rights advocates say the repeated destruction of water infrastructure, combined with Israel’s blockade of fuel, spare parts and repair materials, should not be described as “collateral damage,” but instead an organized policy of driving forced displacement disguised as “voluntary migration.”
