It’s not a partisan issue, it’s about protecting 🇨🇦’s democracy, institutions, economy & freedom. And it’s been happening for years unchecked.

Anyone who chooses to ignore or neglects foreign interference has no business holding office.

@showmebeef @MsMelChen On China I agree. They are not our friend. EU is a major trading partner already. So more of that. But more importantly we all just need to get back to business, and tariffs don’t help that.

What many have forgotten- unfortunately the Trump regime in particular- is everything is better when we both win.

Trade should be as open/free as reasonably possible & we should all stop fighting & go back to getting rich together.

Knee jerk anti-🇺🇸 is easy & in a way, cathartic, but ultimately unproductive.

It’s just business, meaning profit matters, not emotions.

🇨🇦 screwed immigration under the Libs and Carney hasn’t fixed it.

But saying we’re importing the 3rd world is misguided. Yes, too many low-skilled workers came here cause we promised a better life that we didn’t deliver. Lots of my healthcare staff are in this category.

But for those who stay- like all immigrant families- their children will be 🇨🇦, will adopt 🇨🇦 values/customs, and will contribute immensely to 🇨🇦.

At one point Italians, Irish, Jews, Lebanese, Eastern Europeans, etc were all viewed this way. Now their descendants are the backbone of the country.

That’s 🇨🇦 in the best way.

Agreed, Michael. We’ll solve our differences with 🇺🇸 eventually. But we need more relationships like the TPP as alternatives.

More importantly, we also need to get stronger at home. And no government has been serious about that for the past 30 years.

Hopefully that is changing.

Carney spent months conceding to Trump, as much of the world has. Canadians were getting tired of it.

But this is strategy vs. tactics. 🇨🇦 pushing back is a tactic. The strategy remains getting a good deal with 🇺🇸.

Carney has something most allied leaders don’t: overwhelming public support which only grows when he stands up to Trump. That gives him room to take short-term pain.

The disappointing part is that almost none of our allies have joined 🇨🇦 in pushing back. Which says more about them than us.

Yet the lesson for them is simple: 🇺🇸’s allies need 🇺🇸. But 🇺🇸 needs its allies too.

Anyone who wants to give up 🇨🇦 sovereignty to join the EU doesn’t understand what a mess EU is.

I am arguing that all the countries that are getting hit with BS 🇺🇸 tariffs that hurt everyone push back against 🇺🇸 so we can all go back to free trade an getting rich instead of fighting each other.

We actually are upping our defence spending like crazy. What America chooses to do with its own defence budgets has nothing to do with us.

But I agree, we have been a shitty ally on that front and we need to do better. Luckily, most Canadians feel that way now and we are making the moves to correct it.

He is taking some steps in the right direction, but spending too high, regulations still stifle growth and, as an entrepreneur, I don’t feel the economic climate is any better.

Bigger problem isn’t just Carney and Canadians that are easily duped by Liberals. It’s that Canada has had mostly bad/visionless government for more than 30 years.

That needs to change.

But the negotiating with the US part might mean all the other countries 🇺🇸 is pushing around need to push back and get better deals so trade flows more freely for all. That’s not globalism, it’s trade strategy.

Great to see this patriotism, Kevin. Couldn’t agree more about Canada’s potential.

But our wealth isn’t just in the ground. It’s AI, quantum, data centres, tech talent, energy and an entire healthcare ecosystem waiting to be unleashed and commercialized.

And as populations decline across much of the developed world, Canada remains one of the few countries still capable of attracting and integrating people from everywhere. The future is ours to lose.

🇺🇸 will always be our largest and most important market. But our ambition shouldn’t be to become its client state.

It should be to become a global power in our own right. 🇨🇦
