In 2020, Kate oversaw quality, access, and benefits for veterans with spinal cord injury and disease — care that is highly specialized and available almost only inside the VA.

The shutdown and vaccine protocols “disproportionately robbed these veterans of the care that they desperately needed and caused incalculable damage.”

“Restrictions of care and coercion of staff were presented as a protection. For the veterans I was charged with serving and the nurses who served them.”

"The cure was worse than the disease.”

When vaccines rolled out in early 2021, she said the VA faced a choice: preserve medical freedom for the workforce or remove staff who declined “an experimental gene-based product labeled as a vaccine.” Directed by HHS policy and the consensus of the time, it chose the latter. Employees who declined were terminated.

SCI nurses were put in an impossible position: accept a forced medical intervention or leave the post veterans depend on. Religious and medical exemption requests came in large numbers; almost all were denied. The department later reported it “coerced 98.8 percent of their staff to receive the vaccine.”

The way our veterans were treated was shameful.

@geauxt17 @beverly_patriot I agree patients deserve better care & it is the facilities duty but they aren’t giving the best patient care. I can’t change that so why you’re beating me over the head with this I’m not sure & again, unless you’re working the floor like I am, yes everyone is understaffed.
