EuroLeague Defender of the Year Alpha Diallo has agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal to sign with the Denver Nuggets, agents Jared Mucha and Javon Phillips of Excel Sports Management tell ESPN. The former Providence standout and Euro star makes the NBA jump at 29 years old on a guaranteed deal for the West contenders.
I maintain that Christian Braun’s ability and the average fan’s view of him are farther apart than perhaps any Nuggets player in history, Will Barton included.
Longtime NBA coach Steve Clifford is also joining the Wizards as a coaching advisor, sources tell ESPN. Clifford, who has held similar advisor roles for the Suns and Nets in recent years, coached as an assistant with Ewing in Orlando (2007-12). Ewing then served as an assistant under Clifford in Charlotte from 2013-17.
Jaylen Brown finished sixth in NBA MVP voting last season. He carried the Celtics to 56 wins without Tatum. He’s got an NBA Finals MVP on his resume.
Shocking to me how many Nuggets fans hate this idea. They need a shakeup and Brown is a beast. Pull that trigger.
When the Nuggets signed Christian Braun to the extension last summer I don’t think they envisioned keeping Peyton Watson on the roster going forward. I think they thought they’d trade Watson at the deadline, re-sign him for cheap, or find a trade for him this offseason. Then Watson broke out and turned himself into a player that the Nuggets didn’t think he’d become this quickly — and it became obvious that they had to keep him. That’s a lot of why Denver’s in this position with its roster.
I'll just keep reminding people that they don't need to create "room" to pay Watson. They have Bird Rights and they aren't currently hard-capped. They're just trying to avoid a huge tax bill, which is an enormously lame thing to do when you have a three-time MVP in his prime.
