First I have heard about it, but I have been hearing rumors about the movement more generally. That thing about rumors, is they need proof or they end up being defamation.

I know who the guy is. I am more concerned about his efforts to regulate AI though.

I also am quite familiar with the strain of thought (warmed over utilitarianism) which I'm not very enamored with, Peter Singer especially. Who is my mother's age, so he's not chasing much of anybody.

I think Huang was taken out of context. He said systems thinking will become more important than solving surface integrals. He intimated that other skills will come to the fore. Will we be learning mathematics on a different level instead?

I agree, actually. Though understanding the maths is important, the way it is broken down into sections that don't interact may not be a correct view. Being the best at long division and knowing multiplication tables by heart may be less important than your fluency with writing in mathematics.

Using "think" to describe what an LLM does reminds me of the 16th century, when astronomers didn't really believe in the heliocentric model, but used it for calculations anyway because the math was simpler. We'll start by calling it thinking, then gradually acknowledge it is.

“Feel,” even “want,” I can get behind as things for which evidence is thin. But AIs *clearly* think and understand. If your definition of “think” excludes entities that can autonomously resolve Millennium Problems, it is your definition that is flawed.

This desire to avoid anthropomorphic language has become a pathology.

@RealDianeYap People with strong ethnic biases are deciding by feelings and not logic or facts. I'd be happy to show them where to live with plenty of drug addict crime riddled white people, and I will live next to the law abiding and high performing gay and Asian people.
