Tonight, Alabama voters elected a senator who'll make them proud.
And if Democrats can win in Alabama, we can -- and must -- compete everywhere.
Onward!
As y'all know, I study higher ed lobbyists and used to work for one. A friend asked how I would lobby against the Graduate School Tuition Waiver Tax if I were still in the game. I thought about it, and here’s how I would tell students to oppose the #GradStudentTax (Thread): 1/19
@BrianDuhLe @kathrynvetter1 @em_rene@NBCPhiladelphia No doubt that solid mentorship is also important for a strong, sustainable community. I just think that mentorship is generally happening and more concrete measures to curb high risk drinking need to be in place. #MUEdLaw
@BrianDuhLe @kathrynvetter1 @em_rene@NBCPhiladelphia Certainly, if someone wants to break the rules they will. However, high volume parties where it is difficult to regulate alcohol will be extremely difficult if the house is dry, and most of these deaths are happening at big events #MUEdLaw
@kathrynvetter1 @em_rene@NBCPhiladelphia I think a reasonable step would be making all fraternity houses dry. This is already a condition for most sorority houses, and I believe would have a higher impact on drinking behaviors. #MUEdLaw
@kathrynvetter1 @em_rene@NBCPhiladelphia I like the idea of publishing data, similar to Clery Act reporting. However, I believe most chapters have alumni advisors. While I love my role, it can’t fix everything. Sometimes, alumni are more invested in keeping old drinking traditions than the active members are. #MUEdLaw
@jorgejzuniga I believe collective bargaining would be helpful for GA’s as the tax bill puts us in a precarious place. Unionizing may help open communication with the university and/or help lobby against the tax bill #MUEdLaw
@AdamRossNelson @rtregler but I would assume safety is a compelling state interest and providing security is legitimate given university’s liability #MUEdLaw
@giulianascar Definitely! Article goes into detail how other schools are getting rid of full-time MBA programs, will be interesting to see if this lasts
Talking about this with @giulianascar during #MUEdLaw - UW Madison tried to phase out its full-time MBA program, but backlash kept it alive https://t.co/PB0HcH1zG8
Thinking about yesterday’s #MuEdLaw writing tips, this thread has a ton of great suggestions for tackling large writing projects https://t.co/nZwn6TEyDl
