It is very common for executives to feel a desire to vindicate themselves. And the longer they stew on the situation, the deeper that desire for vindication can root.
Don’t let your hurt dictate your actions.

Grey areas are reality of executive life.
So get clear on YOUR boundaries by which you evaluate each gray area decision. Otherwise, you are likely to lose your core values.
Boundaries: What you will / will not do? And in what situations?
#Leadership#ExecutiveCoach
I often speak with leaders who feel "stuck" in their role.
The best way to get un-stuck is to grow the talent around and below you .... so you are invaluable and irreplaceable.

A desire to win, the ambition to create, the urge to defend, the fear to fail often tell us to fight ....
Be wise and put your emotions & ego in the back seat so that you can objectively pick your battles and the strategies to win.

My #1 piece of guidance to aspiring coaches?
We cannot see the client clearly if we are looking through our lens ... we just muddy the water with our issues. If you cannot put aside your issues, you have no business coaching.

Parent & Leader .....
To be a good at it, both are required to be patient, to set clear expectations, to guide without taking over, to provide helpful feedback, to advocate for and support, to work through their own frustration so as not to place it upon their span of care
Without exception, high ranking executives rarely receive honest feedback. So they tend to discount "real" feedback.
This is almost always a mistake ....
The ONLY way to discern validity is to enter from a point of genuine curiosity

It’s that time of year ……
You may be asked to provide feedback to your leader. You may be nervous and unsure how to do that.
Approach your feedback not as a bomb that will detonate, but as a gift with a genuine desire to help.
Over and over, leadership development programs ignore the uncomfortable realities of corporate leadership. Leaving "high potentials" unprepared, unprotected, and often unable to survive in the real world as a corporate executive.
Teach them to be politically savvy!
Recently I saw a post from someone I respect talking about "brand" consistency across social media platforms.
It got me thinking.
It made me curious.
What do people know about me?
I am asking this on all social media I am active on. I'm interested to see the responses.
It’s that time of year …..
Every executive knows that they SHOULD do It.
Every executive thinks that they WILL do it.
and yet ……it never seems to happen.
Allow me to make you Year End Review easier.

Many leaders mis-interpret authenticity as having to be raw and vulnerable with those in their span of care.
Nope!
Just as you would not walk around the office naked, you should not walk around the office emotionally naked.
#Leadership#ExecutiveCoach#Authenticity
Behind the scenes of the executive reality is rarely pretty. Operating in an environment comprised of pressure, politics, stress, ego, fear, adversaries, uncertainty, hidden agendas, big decisions, and heavy implications is not for the faint of heart.
#Leadership#ExecutiveCoach
Leading by example is just table stakes .... a starting place for leaders. You have to clearly communicate your expectations and then create accountability for yourself and those in your span of care to live up to those expectations.
#Leadership#ExecutiveCoach
In the real world, nothing goes as planned, so those well thought out plans are not gonna work.
But having done the hard work of planning, you have already considered other options so you can easily adjust and move forward.

The end of year rush to complete (often irrelevant) goals that were arbitrarily decided (or simply made-up) at the beginning of the year.
The goal is NOT the destination.
The goals IS the indicator towards the destination.
