Grateful the Senate has passed FULL & COMPLETE repeal of Caesar sanctions by passing the FY26 NDAA. President Trump expected to sign in days.
I told you Trump would fix it!
Thank you @SenatorShaheen@USAMBTurkiye & Syrian Americans who NEVER gave up on FULL repeal.
Make Syria Great Again!
@lacymacauley@arb_x4@RepJoeWilson Yes to give the Syrian people a chance to live. Medicine and food was limited even under “humanitarian purposes”. Sanctions limit everything in every possible way and affect the people more than they do the government.
We will not forget this shameful stance and we will fight this bill tooth and nail in the media, in your districts, and in the house and senate. @RepFrenchHill@RepMikeLawler are undermining President Trump’s policies and destabilizing Syria. Shame
Grateful to have spoken this morning to @RepFrenchHill and others of the @FinancialCmte
HR4427 in its current form is not the right approach forward and does not align with President Trump’s agenda for Syria. I hope that the Financial Services Committee reconsiders this measure and takes more time to study and work on Syria sanctions. A clean repeal of the Caesar Act promotes stability.
Grateful that the amendment by @RepMaxineWaters includes the same policy of my bipartisan bill — clean repeal, a policy which is supported by MANY Republicans including 6 Republican cosponsors of HR 3941 and is in line with President Trump’s approach.
📣We’ve done it before—and we can do it again. Congress is advancing H.R. 4427, a bill that would deepen harmful Syria sanctions with no path forward.
Take just two minutes to send a letter to your representatives. Let’s speak in volumes and show that our voices matter.

Your voice makes a difference. Please don’t sit this one out 🙏🏻
A century ago, the West imposed maps, mandates, penciled borders, and foreign rule. Sykes-Picot divided Syria and the broader region for imperial gain—not peace. That mistake cost generations. We will not make it again.
The era of Western interference is over. The future belongs to regional solutions, but partnerships, and a diplomacy grounded in respect. As President Trump emphasized in his May 13th address in Riyadh, ”Gone are the days when Western interventionalists would fly to the Middle East to give lectures on how to live, and how to govern your own affairs."
Syria’s tragedy was born in division. Its rebirth must come through dignity, unity, and investment in its people. That starts with truth, accountability—and working with the region, not around it.
We are standing with Türkiye, the Gulf, and Europe—this time not with troops and lectures, or imaginary boundaries, but shoulder-to-shoulder with the Syrian people themselves. With the fall of the Assad regime the door is open to peace—by eliminating sanctions we are enabling the Syrian people to finally open that door and discover a path to renewed prosperity and security.
NEW -- #France President @EmmanuelMacron speaking alongside #Syria President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the Elysee:
- "We believe it's in everyone's interest, including the Americans, to lift the sanctions on #Syria & to enable a reconstruction process."
From 2011-2024, Bashar al-#Assad’s regime killed 500,000+ people; launched 330+ chemical attacks; & facilitated a strategic presence of 10,000s of #Iran, #Hezbollah & other #IRGC proxies.
Never once did #Israel strike outside #Assad’s Palace.
1- Sanctions are crushing Syria’s people, not its power structure. This isn’t just a humanitarian issue-it’s a strategic failure for the US.
2- The longer Syria remains unstable and isolated, the more room there is for extremism, trafficking, and foreign influence hostile to U.S. interests.
3- Lifting sanctions is not surrender- it’s strategy. It opens the door to recovery, diplomacy, and long-term peace. Syrians are ready to be partners, not pawns.
4- It’s time to trade punishment for compassion—and isolation for partnership. Let Syrians thrive, not just survive.

.@RepJoeWilson and I sent a bipartisan letter urging the Trump Admin to change outdated Syria sanctions to give the people a fighting chance after Assad’s brutal rule and prevent instability in the region.
The U.S. must act before it’s too late.

@richimedhurst “The only Arab state in the world still supporting the Palestinians and Lebanese” LOL. The same state that occupied Lebanon? Killed Hariri? The same state that forcibly disappeared thousands of Palestinians and bombed their Yarmouk camp to the ground?
According to the most reliable & rigorous investigations, Christians amounted to 0.4% of those killed -- and for what it's worth, Sunni deaths look to have represented ~35%.
Stop with simplistic narratives & stick to condemning *killing* full stop. #Syria
@richimedhurst Nobody in Syria wants to ethnically cleanse the Alawites. Stop spreading misinformation. If you truly feel for the victims, conduct accurate research.
