I keep thinking about my evangelical husband in 2009 reacting so violently to Misty's "worship," the Awakening, and Mike's teaching, and getting us away from there.

And how my charismatic family despised him, said he didn't understand the Holy Spirit.

And about the gift: "discernment of spirits." People keep asking where it was. (Idea: look for the gift of discernment of spirits in people who discerned the spirits. There were LOTS of these. But most of them were evangelical.)

The crisis of faith over the charismata will continue. But the fact is that the gifts are always at work all over the earth, wherever the true church is. They don't announce themselves, bc they are meant for love of the saints, not vainglory.

The spirit that showcases men and women, that isn't the Spirit of Christ. So where the charismata are sought, bought, and caught--that's the least likely place to actually find them.

Find a community committed to mutual love, humility, and authenticity. Serve Jesus in the normal rhythms, enjoy his presence, enjoy each other, live well. Embrace the mundane.
