"Curiosity is your heart's way of telling you to pay attention." ~ @Jess_Keating
This is great for many things. I like it for brainstorming for my next manuscript. What are you curious about? #amwriting#author#kidlit
Such a lovely surprise to find #TheOneAndOnlyIvan hanging out with some of my all-time favorites on the New York Public Library's "125 Kids Books We Love" list. Thank you, @nypl, and many happy returns! https://t.co/7Ac4qKUiF9
This is an amazing Q with amazing suggestions! I recently took a course on quality assessments, so mine would be about not using letter grades, instead focusing on meaningful feedback... would S’s focus more on learning from their mistakes? What growth could be measured & shown?
Ok all the teacher geeks out there, I love research.
I’ve done action research, double blind studies are my jam.
If you could conduct research, what would you try and discover in education? #edchat#edresearch
Students buy into teachers who are genuine and honest.
Admitting you don't know an answer or allowing a student to correct your mistakes go a long way in building a connected classroom.
I know a lot of folks are wishing everyone would get on to positive things and stop perseverating on racism and the recent killings of unarmed black people.
Trust me—we’ve been wishing that for centuries now. Please allow yourselves to be uncomfortable and disrupted, too.
To all teachers asking for permission to continue reading Wonder to their students via zoom, or recording themselves for a read aloud: yes!!! Go ahead!!! And thank you for your dedication and perseverance. Thank you for your guidance and wisdom. Thank you for your courage. Xoxoxo
Educators! Many of your schools have closed from the #COVID19 crisis. Please know that you have my blessing to record video of yourselves reading my books to share online with your students. And THANK YOU for maintaining some normalcy for your students during this difficult time.
I love the fact that, no matter how bad our “to do list” gets screwed up, no matter how many times the copier breaks, no matter how bad our lesson bombs… we always have the ability to be nice to kids… to make them smile. I love that.
4 ways teachers can prepare students for the world:
1. Let students experience failure so they can learn how to overcome it
2. Give them freedom to make their own choices
3. Tell them what they're good at
4. Teach them to cultivate a sense of humor
