Fair has become another example of an administration that seems increasingly focused on spectacle over governing.

As the centerpiece of the Trump administration’s Freedom 250 celebration, the event will transform the National Mall into a massive patriotic festival featuring state pavilions, concerts, military displays, historical exhibits, food, rides, and other attractions celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

At a time when many Americans are struggling with housing costs, rising prices, health care, and other everyday challenges, the administration has chosen to pour enormous attention into a highly produced national celebration. The event has become a symbol of a presidency that often appears more interested in creating memorable spectacles and dominating headlines than addressing the problems affecting people’s daily lives.
