On academic integrity, the University of Waterloo’s Dean of Engineering is Dr Mary Wells. She was hired during the metoo response. The position of Dean of Engg was actually very female. Prior to Wells, Pearl Sullivan held that role until she relinquished because of cancer then a man held it for less than a year in the interim.

Wells is male-deferential and bias men over women. When women in society have a problem, she blames women. When men have a problem, she blames society. She deburdens men to overburden women and calls it “empowerment.”

In 2024, in the wake of the US elections, Wells and 2 women co-authors penned an oped about women being targeted by Gen AI porn. In this article, she never mentions men.
1. Who is generating the porn?
2. Who is consuming the porn?
3. Who builds and controls the AI tech?
4. Who is best in place to thwart these efforts?

To do this, Wells breaks many engineering principles, narrative models, and the university’s code of conduct?

Why is she not held to that basic standards that she would expel students?

It is a sour view she has to believe not one of her colleagues is appalled by women targeted by genAI porn

No. All universities that I’ve looked into have policies about not making intelligence pre-judgments based on race and other demographics. Ghent has this too.
