An anonymous resident from M.P. Shah Government Medical College, Jamnagar, Gujarat has reached out alleging:

• 40–44 hours of continuous duty with barely 6 hours to sleep
• During “double emergency” — allegedly 60 HOURS continuously, without even 2 hours of proper rest
• Workload claimed to reach ~140 HOURS/WEEK
• Allegedly not even ONE day off in an entire month
• Juniors allegedly expected to pay for seniors’ breakfast
• Residents fear speaking up—and allege that after complaints, they are made to sign statements saying “everything is okay”
• And if they want to quit? A reported ₹30–40 LAKH seat-leaving penalty can effectively trap them.

After recent ragging-related tragedies, HOW MANY MORE WARNINGS DO WE NEED?

Doctors are human beings, not bonded labour.

These are serious allegations and deserve an immediate, independent investigation by the Gujarat health authorities—with protection for residents who speak up.

If even half of this is true, heads need to roll. Silence is complicity.

Doctors are perhaps the only professionals expected to be highly trained, permanently available, legally accountable, emotionally invested & somehow embarrassed about charging for it.

A ₹1,500 consultation after 10–12 years of training is “loot”

₹1,200 for a drink at a fancy bar? Lifestyle.
₹900 for a neopolitan pizza? Experience.
₹3,000 for a fancy haircut in Khan Market? Expertise.
But when a doctor charges for expertise, suddenly medicine must become charity.
By all means, PUNISH kickbacks, unnecessary tests & unethical practice. Ruthlessly.

But stupid politician who turn isolated malpractice into a morality play against an entire profession is not reforming healthcare. He is feeding an already convenient public prejudice. Doctors are expected to charge like saints & pay rent, salaries, taxes & compliance costs like everyone else.

Maharashtra govt has decided to allow BHMS doctors who complete the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP) to become eligible for registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council and prescribe modern medicines.
This is one of the most disastrous healthcare policy decisions in recent years.

If 5.5 years of MBBS education, thousands of hours of clinical postings, emergency duties, and a compulsory internship are considered the minimum requirement to independently practice modern medicine, how can a short certificate course be treated equal ?

Funny part is Homeopathic practitioners in Maharashtra are protesting to allow them to practice allopathy .

I have made complaint on illegitimate & inhumane duty hours of AIIMS, JIPMER, and PGIMER & NIMHANS to NMC and got below response.

NMC informs that AIIMS, JIPMER, NBEMS and INIs do not fall under the regulatory framework of NMC. Grievances and issues relating to such organizations may, therefore, be taken up with MoHFW

Battle to ensure 48 hours work week & week of will keep on going till our children get 8 hours sound sleep & three meals in early stage of residency

Please educate parents to file police complaint on senior PGs / HoDs/ Dean as per various provisions of BNS in acse of illegal & inhuamne duty hours.

Sending few abusers & law breakers only can save our children from toxicity
