Specialist in midwifery and women’s health, Ex Clinical Services Lead Mariestopes Hospital, currently Lecturer Kabale University, PhD fellow at KU Leuven
We had a joyous event today at Kabale University as we celebrated Prof. Joy Kwesiga’s 21 years of service to the institution.
Prof. Kwesiga, who was the first woman to serve as Vice Chancellor in the country, retired in June. Before joining @kabuniversity, Prof. Joy Kwesiga had served in several positions @Makerere, including being the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Like her name, through her service, she brought joy to the people of Kigezi and the nation at large.
Through her dedication to transforming the university, she helped build an institution that has given Abayankigezi strong roots and wings to fly, compete, and serve the world.
We are grateful for her distinguished service. At a time when she could have pursued other opportunities, she chose to return home and take a risk on a young institution started by the visionary elders of Kigezi. She joined a university that was still in its formative stages and helped nurture it into a public university of national significance.
She transformed Kabale University into an institution that many admired and a model for transforming community-owned institutions into public universities. We are grateful to @KagutaMuseveni and Mama @JanetMuseveni for their unwavering support for the university.
As Maya Angelou reminds us, when you learn, teach; and when you get, give. Prof. Kwesiga embodied this principle throughout her decades of service. She learned, she taught, she gave, and, above all, she inspired.
I challenged the university leadership to build on her legacy by remaining relevant to the needs of our people.
The university should also use its research capacity to help address the challenges facing the Kigezi sub-region, including poverty and malnutrition, and provide practical solutions that can improve the lives of our people.
I have watched videos of Nameere interrogating medical officers in Gulu. It’s very disturbing that she talked to them as if she's talking to her children in her house. No sense of professionalism, no ethical conduct, just attitudes and despising the medical workers. Worst she is speaking to the locals (the Acholi) in her local language (Luganda), riyale, was this a mockery to those people?
Medical officers in these places are just helping Ugandans based on their enumeration. She boast of them being paid UGX. 2.6m (take home: Ugx. 1.7m), but she forgot that she earns over UGX. 50m+ for doing nothing other than showing attitude to hardworking Ugandans in medical fields.

WATCH: James Atwiine has chained himself to the gate of UNEB, protesting the invalidation of his UCE and UACE academic papers. His protest follows the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify him from the Isingiro North MP race over allegedly forged academic credentials. Atwiine lost the NRM primaries and was contesting as an independent against Agriculture State Minister Bright Rwamirama.

Whatever is happening with @UgandaEC and @UNEB_UG regarding these fake disqualifications or signature maneuvers in the name of politicians desiring to go through elections unopposed is embarrassing and scandalous!! It’s a big shame!! If these ministers are scared of elections, let them keep out of elective politics! #UgandaDecides2026
Former Headteacher and Director of GreenHill College in Isingiro has clarified that Atwine James, the candidate whose nomination for Isingiro North MP was annulled last week, is indeed a former student of the institution.

James Atwine was ready to challenge Bright Rwamirama in the 2026 Isingiro North Constituency parliamentary election, but the Electoral Commission cancelled his nomination. This came after being duly nominated by the same Electoral Commission, Neriah Turyamureeba, the Former Director of Greenhill College in Isingiro District, where he attended his O-level, wrote to EC claiming Atwine never studied at the said school. UNEB had verified his O-level certificate, and it is what EC based on to nominate him. The irony is that EC considered a letter written by the former Director of the school, but it is not on headed paper and has no stamp of the school.
So what's the future of people who want to challenge big shots in government and politics, but whose former schools have changed leadership and ownership?
