My Experience with the RTO: Today vs. 8 Years Ago

It was 1996 when the Tamil movie Indian was released. It focused heavily on the deep-rooted corruption within RTO (Regional Transport Office) offices in Tamil Nadu. The movie was supposed to sound the alarm and raise public awareness to help reduce corruption. Instead, bribery became more normalized than ever before. For the past 30 years, it felt like only middlemen could walk into an RTO and actually get anything done.

In 2018, when we moved back to India from the US, I had a naive mindset and a strong will not to pay bribes. I had purchased a used tractor for agricultural use. Despite having all the proper paperwork, I had to make at least a dozen trips to the RTO office, spending several months waiting before I finally succeeded. I made it my mission to persist and win. I did eventually succeed in registering the vehicle, but it came at a heavy cost to my time and emotional well-being. At the end of the grueling process, the assistant to the RTO laughed as he signed the papers and asked me to at least buy a flag for ₹50.

Since then, I evolved into a "normal" Tamilian because survival comes first. Bribes had simply become a normalized part of life.

Even after the 2026 election results and @TVKVijayHQ public stance against bribery, I still didn't voluntarily choose to go to the RTO office myself this time.

However, I went today because a middleman told me, "Sir, please go yourself, as middlemen are no longer encouraged inside the offices." To my surprise, I walked in alone with the paperwork from my dealership. The entire process took two and a half hours. All of the staff members were courteous, except for the brake inspector. He reminded me of the movie Indian—he easily could have worn me down, but I persisted, driven by the hope given to us by our CM, @TVKVijayHQ sir.

What gave me real hope, though, was the RTO officer himself. As he signed the papers, he explicitly told us, "You will be given a username and password to pay online. Please do not pay any money to anyone else." I never imagined I would hear those words inside an RTO office in my lifetime.

Today, I got the work done with absolutely zero bribes. A huge thanks to Thiru. Vijay Avl and the people for electing him as our CM.

I will write a separate post soon detailing where process reforms are still required based on my experience. Many British-era rules still exist; changing them will reduce corruption to an even greater extent.

I believe the government should closely monitor social media.

People are extremely upset with the continued poster and banner culture, which is even worse than before.

No walls, spaces under flyovers, or even electric poles are spared.

I'm genuinely asking: What is so difficult about banning this ugly practice and strictly enforcing the ban?

Looks like the Parandur airport project has been dropped. I don’t know what other viable solution will be implemented.

Overwhelming feedback on the need for a Parandur airport has been completely ignored. This is not a positive sign for the state.

ECR Saravanan alone is enough to tarnish the government’s image in Chennai. He is becoming increasingly aggressive with posters and banners.

This is such a low hanging fruit for the government. Why don’t we just enforce a ban on all posters and banners across Tamil Nadu?

Encouraged by ECR Saravanan, other party functionaries are also following suit.

Is it really that difficult to implement?

She was an employee at a Bengaluru daycare. She saw babies being tortured, loaded on to washing machines, stuffed down toilet bowls. She complained. She was sacked. She became a whistleblower and exposed the horrific crimes. She should have been rewarded.

She has been arrested.

There is little to no discussion on LinkedIn about the abuse of children at the daycare facility of Capgemini in Brookfield, Bengaluru.

The victims were the children of the employees who worked at the company.

These infants were stuffed inside washing machines, narrow water-filled pipes and bathrooms if they dared to cry.

The count of victims is in the range of 40-50. There were 5 employees who were tasked to take care of these children.

Instead, they would beat, torture and threaten the infants. The good news is that these 5 criminals have been booked by the Bengaluru police.

But there is one more concerning part to the story: There was one employee who first flagged the issue internally.

The whistleblower was promptly fired from his job. But, he chose to do the right thing.

The man had a good conscience, and he reported the matter to the police, which led to the rescue of the doomed children.

Reportedly, Capgemini employees were not allowed to check on their own kids at this on-campus day-care facility, which ensured that the abuse of children continued unabated.

Capgemini is now in a firefighting mode. First, it has temporarily stopped operations at the facility.

And through media portals, it is being clarified that the day care is being run by a 3rd party vendor. Wow

This is what we call typical corporate escapism when it comes to taking accountability.

Today multiple complaints on @makkal_saatchi have raised serious allegations against Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College, Perambalur.

The complaints describe a repeated pattern of alleged extra fee collection, unofficial payments, internship-year fees, stipend issues, extension-fee demands, and pressure on students.

These are not small claims. They involve students, parents, lakhs of rupees, and medical education.

If the college has followed all rules, the simplest way is to place the approved fee structure, receipts, stipend records, and internship records before the competent authorities.

Requesting Health Dept, DME, NMC, and Fee Committee to examine this fairly and protect students from any retaliation.

Last night, Makkal Saatchi faced a serious API abuse attempt.

Someone tried to flood the platform with nearly 30,000 fake spam through the public API.

Let me be clear:
Makkal Saatchi is not going down because of spam or abuse.

Security has now been tightened strongly with CF protection, Turnstile, WAF, rate limits, locked access, and BE hardening.

Those spam complaints are trashed from db. Real citizen voices will stay.

This platform was built for people fighting corruption not for abusers trying to silence it.
