This is just unbelievable. Chennai to Bangalore, 20th July, Sleeper AC bus rate is Rs 5595. What do they offer for this amount? Can someone explain this? Usually the private operator can avail 1.5 times of Govt bus rate. But this? Operator is JJ yatra. Any action on this?

Sir,

Subject:- Regarding arrest of a motivational speaker Maha Vishnu, founder of Paramporul Foundation.

1. As reported by the media, based on a complaint from N Vijayaraj, Saidapet Police Station registered an FIR under sections 192, 196 (1) (a), 352, and 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 as well as section 92 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 against a motivational speaker Maha Vishnu and he was arrested and forwarded to judicial/jail custody.

2. The English media reported that during a programme at the Saidapet government school on August 28 Maha Vishnu said, “If God was kind, everyone should be born equal. One is born rich or poor, a criminal or a hero. Why such differences? You have been given in this life based on what you did in your previous birth.” There upon a visually impaired teacher questioned him which led to an argument between them, and the video of the incident went viral on social media.

3. In this connection it is pertinent to recap that:

(a) Karma is a principle of cause and effect that is central to all religions of Indian origin. In Hinduism, karma is the relationship between a person's actions and their consequences, and the chain of cause and effect in morality. Karma is attached to the soul, and determines what a person's next life will be after death. In Buddhism, karma is the principle of cause and effect, where the result of an action is determined by both the act and the intention. In Jainism, karma is a physical substance that's everywhere in the universe, and is attracted to the soul by the soul's actions. The quantity and nature of the karma particles that stick to the soul determines whether the soul is happy or unhappy.

(b) The metaphysics of Karma is like the Newton 3rd law of Physics. As every action has an equal and opposite reaction, likewise one has to bear the consequences of one’s deeds. Some key aspects of karma include, good intent and deeds contribute to good karma and happier rebirths, while bad intent and deeds contribute to bad karma and worse rebirths. While good deeds are credits, bad deeds are debits to one’s Karma account which is maintained across cycles of births and deaths. So, what an individual was, is and will be across the cycle of births and deaths is entirely a function of one’s deeds. The intensity of karma depends on how intense a person's passions were at the time of their actions. Karma can be avoided by behaving well and having the right mental state.

(c) Closely linked to the concept of Karma is Rebirth (punarjanma) or transmigration of soul which is another central belief in Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. In Hinduism, the eternal soul takes on physical forms and lives through many existences until it accumulates enough punya (good deeds) to get freed from the cycle of births and deaths. In Jainism, the bad karma is caused by harming living things, and to avoid it, they practice ahimsa, a strict code of nonviolence. In Buddhism, the bundle of unresolved desires travels after death in a subtle form before finding a new birth.

(d) The concepts of Karma and Rebirth incentivises good conduct (punya) towards not only fellow human beings but also to all living organisms as well as to the nature and environment. Since, one’s deeds alone determine the nature (human, non-human, etc) of one’s next life, it is a powerful motivator to be and do good so as to avoid bad birth and life in the next birth. It keeps people on righteous path. Our youth are going astray because we are not teaching them these eternal concepts that has been keeping our civilisation and society in good stead for thousands of years.

(e) Please recall the story of the great Manu Neethi Cholan, whose statue adorns Madras High Court premises and guides justice dispensation.

4. On the other hand, a central belief of the middle-east originated Abrahamic religions namely, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, is that there is only one life which is transient whereas the afterlife is permanent. Further, their respective God decides the nature of one’s afterlife (that is whether one goes to heaven or hell for eternity, etc) on the day of judgement on the basis of one’s work in upholding, spreading and proliferating their respective religions, which is a powerful motivator for their followers to not only earn a permanent place in heaven but also to avoid hell in the afterlife.

5. What Maha Vishnu said, as reported by the English, was not illegal let alone cognizable offences warranting registration of an FIR and arresting him. The sections of law invoked are bizarre. Here it is:

(a) Section 192 BNS is about, “Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot-if rioting be committed; if not committed.” How on earth Maha Vishnu speaking about Karma, Rebirth, etc to guide the students on the righteous path to become good human beings, is a wanton provocation with intent to cause riot?

(b) Section 196(1)(a) BNS is about, “Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony.” In what way Maha Vishnu speaking about central beliefs of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism to the students promotes enmity between grounds of religion, etc?

(c) Section 352 BNS (non-cognizable and bailable offence) is about, “Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.” By what stretch of imagination an argument between Maha Vishnu and the visually impaired teacher over Karma, Rebirth, etc, even if it was heated argument, inside the school, was an “insult with intent provoke breach of peace”?

(d) Section 353(2) BNS reads as, “Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement or report containing false information, rumour or alarming news, including through electronic means, with intent to create or promote, or which is likely to create or promote, on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community or any other ground whatsoever, feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.” In what way the speech of Maha Vishnu to the students and teachers in the school about the concepts of Karma, Rebirth, etc creates, “feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities”?

(e) Section 92(a) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 is about, “intentionally insults or intimidates with intent to humiliate a person with disability in any place within public view”. How an argument between a visually impaired teacher and Maha Vishnu over the concepts of Karma, Rebirth, etc amounts to insulting that teacher and his/her disability?

6. Powerful forces have been at work to deracinate our students and youth from our native moorings by denying them access to our ancient civilisational knowledge. As Maha Vishnu’s motivational speech to the students is based on our ancient civilisational knowledge, they have orchestrated a huge hullabaloo by making a mountain out of molehill.

7. It is not known whether the police have conducted a Preliminary Enquiry to ascertain whether there exists a prima facie case for proceeding in the matter as mandated by section 173(3) of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

8. Whatever it may be, I invite your personal attention with a request to get the case investigated impartially and ensure that the accused Maha Vishnu, who is evidently falsely implicated, gets justice and is released from custody immediately.
