PJ's overall Update for Monday
=============================
The dry spell continues across the Tamil Nadu plains, especially KTCC (Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram & Chengalpattu) and most leeward districts. Strong westerly winds continue to dominate, preventing the sea breeze from penetrating inland.
Why is KTCC (Chennai) and other coastal areas so hot?
----------------
Strong westerlies over the Bay coast are suppressing the afternoon sea breeze. With no cooling from sea breeze reaching inland, hot, dry and windy conditions persist across KTCC and other parts of Tamil Nadu
Mumbai & Konkan
------------------
The Mumbai coast vortex is expected to move inland tomorrow.
As it interacts with the strong monsoon flow, Monday will be a day to watch, with extremely heavy rainfall possible over Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and nearby areas.
Monsoon Depression
------------------
The depression over eastern India continues to pull the monsoon current across central India while the strong Arabian Sea monsoon feeds moisture into the west coast.
Mumbai
------------
Extreme rainfall possible on Monday. People should closely monitor forecasts and advisories and avoid travel.
Chennai
-----------
Another hot, dry and windy day. No sea breeze, so temperatures will remain above normal.
Bengaluru
--------------
Mostly cloudy skies with on-and-off showers, pleasant compared to the east.
Overall - While the west coast braces for flooding rains, Tamil Nadu's leeward plains remain under a rain shadow with continued dry, windy and warm weather.
For perhaps the first time in recent memory, the South Tamil Nadu Ghats have outperformed the Karnataka Western Ghats during June. While Kanniyakumari dominated the rainfall charts and Tirunelveli also fared well, the Nilgiris had an unusually poor June, with no station crossing even 325 mm compared to the 400–800 mm that is often seen in a good southwest monsoon.
Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari once again proved to be relatively resilient to El Niño conditions, a pattern that has been observed in several past El Niño years. However, the story is very different across the rest of western Tamil Nadu.
Coimbatore, the Nilgiris and Theni experienced one of their weakest starts to the southwest monsoon, resulting in little to no meaningful improvement in storage levels at the Nilgiris reservoirs, the Parambikulam Aliyar system serving Coimbatore, and the Vaigai basin reservoirs in Theni.
Although July is climatologically the wettest phase for these catchments, the monsoon has considerable ground to make up if reservoirs are to approach healthy storage levels this season.

Thanks to @Ranjith20286667 for karnataka toppers.
Bhagamandala, one of the most important Cauvery catchment stations in Kodagu, has recorded only 364 mm of rainfall in June, a meagre total by southwest monsoon standards. As a result, inflows into the KRS Dam have remained insignificant.
Monsoon activity is expected to pick up during the first week of July, but there is still a substantial rainfall deficit to overcome. At this stage, it would be apt for us to prepare for the possibility of a below normal inflow season into Mettur Dam.
The Nilgiris reservoirs, Coimbatore dams, and the Cauvery basin reservoirs are likely to be the worst affected if the rainfall deficit persists. In contrast, the dams in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli may fare better, as they are expected to receive relatively more rainfall during the season.
Given the current situation, Mettur Dam reaching its Full Reservoir Level of 120 ft before September 30 appears highly unlikely.
