🚨Liberty was first found to have violated this same law 14 years ago, for incidents that occurred 19 years ago. LU "was specifically advised to address these deficiencies and the conditions and weaknesses that permitted them to occur." They didn't.
This is not the first time Liberty University was found in violation of the Clery Act, that was in 2010. Ongoing issues from that finding were one reason this one was so exhaustive.
Settling is more important than keeping students safe from alleged sexual predators. Indeed, it’s increasingly difficult to deny that this is simply business as usual for too many Christian institutions. https://t.co/RLhGUbdomj
.@LibertyU & its digraced frmr prez @JerryFalwellJr have reached a settlement agreement, ending years of dueling lawsuits & back-and-forth allegations.
Both apologize for "errors & mistakes." Falwell gets "authorized retirement & severance." 1/2

Notably, this is an extremely rare occurrence of Liberty formally apologizing for something, and an even rarer implication that Falwell wants to apologize -- though LU says that on his behalf, and specifies that Falwell himself won't comment.
🚨@LibertyU has reached an agreement with Jerry Falwell Jr "settling all outstanding disputes on both legal and personal matters."
This lifts the (rarely enforced) ban on Falwell from campus, and LU will now pay him "retirement and severance."

The overwhelming majority of @LibertyU students don’t follow news about LU and are mostly in the dark about its scandal-ridden history. That helps Ryan get away with saying laughably hypocritical stuff like this.
John Gauger's company Red Finch came up in Trump's porn star hush-money trial. Gauger rigged online polls for the Trump camp & they kept his payment off the books like they did with Stormy Daniels.
He's still @LibertyU's CIO and a VP on Senior Leadership.

"With Liberty’s history in mind, Costin’s posturing sends a signal that despite being one of the world’s largest Christian institutions, Liberty still has no interest in a foundational Christian practice: confessing and asking for forgiveness."@_DustinWahl https://t.co/P7QmhnT0zM
.@LibertyUPres told students this morning: "As soon as we figured out what was wrong, we acknowledged it and we fixed it."
That's not true at all. LU learned what was wrong in 2005, didn't fix it after an investigation in 2010, and destroyed evidence during this investigation.
.@_DustinWahl looks back the history that led to @LibertyU 's $14 million fine and how LU fought anyone trying to hold them accountable.
LU is now coming into compliance with the law, but it still has not acknowledged the depth of the problem.

Dr. Sandi and Title IX Consulting Group have worked very hard for a long time on the Liberty University case. Here Dr. Sandi shares her thoughts about the ruling issued on March 5, 2024.

LU is making positive changes to fix the problem now. That's good. But let's be honest about how this happened. Those who have been harmed deserve honestly and apology from LU leadership, not more self-righteous spin.

“The worst scandal in American higher education” is the moral collapse at @LibertyU, writes @DavidAFrench.
He’s right. And LU’s response to scandal has always been to attack its critics and refuse to apologize — making its corruption that much worse.

After pressure from @R_Denhollander and LU students in 2021, LU announced an investigation (the results of which still aren’t public) and absurdly referred to 2021 as a “banner year.”
Federal investigators would show up on campus one month later.

“This is the single most blistering Clery report I have ever read. Ever… I cannot think of a single other comparable case in the entire 32-year history of the Clery Act.” -@sdccampussafety
A group of students held signs at yesterday’s @LibertyFootball game after a Department of Education report revealed LU failing to follow campus safety laws and lying about its crime statistics.
Protesting can be a hard thing to do at Liberty. We’re proud of these kids.
With the Clery Act in the news if you’re thinking about how your institution complies please take this opportunity to rethink the ASR. It shouldn’t be a long dry report if it’s going to be effective. https://t.co/TD9C2WSXmy
